Hi,

A lot has been posted on this forum regarding job hunting and below is my personal experience so far. Hope this may help you in finding job in your area.

You can try applying from outside Canada but with my personal experience, be in Canada and then release yourself to recruiters. They are smart enough to judge you are in canada or outside. Plus its very dynamic recruiting here.

Below are some of my personal experience and the recruitment which contacted me..

1. The best is monster. I have uploaded only in monster and been contacted from some recruiters of my field. So the best is to upload with respect to your area and experties and let them contact you. I was not even daily tracking the job postings over there in monster. I was not very active (am a bit lazy !!!).
2. It solely depend in which area you are in. Recruiters usually call you for the jobs near to your address on your resume.
3. Some recruiters are having federal presence but mostly are provincials
4. The most important tip which I have learnt after quite some time is that never apply directly to the carrier web sites of employer. Go through recruiter. As applying directly takes you through HR and through recruiter takes you directly to hiring manager. This is very very important. And once your Resume is in the database of employer when you apply directly on their carrier web site, thats it, you can never go through recruiter.
5. Recruiters are smart enough to judge that are you having a physical presence in canada or remotely connected from outside canada (through ip phone, roaming phone, voice mail etc).
6. The market here is very cool and process takes some time. At the same time it is very very dynamic. You might can be contacted for an interview with recruiter in the morning, with employer in the evening and they can ask you to join very next day...Some opportunities are overnight and that is where our luck clicks as no body on job is available to join very next day. Search out such opportunities.
7. In canada, never use the word CV, the official is Resume.
8. Resume should be maximum of 2 pages and should be in canadian style.
9. Always apply with updated modified Resume with updating it to requirements of the job posted. Try to have as much match as possible as recruiters are usually non technical and just see the match. But at the same time you need to be confident enough to convince the employer in the interview (if you happen to be called by employer)
10. GTA is the best market to start with as this is having much bigger job market (a little bit more competition)
11. Don't get yourself confused with sailing in two boats. Just be positive minded, have faith and proceed to Canada with full focus on establishing your new life in Canada. This is more applicable to all friends who are coming leaving their jobs in middle east.
12. try to be in pace by upgrading your education, certifications which are recognized in Canada.
13. Below are some of the recruiters..

monster.ca
www.workopolis.com/
indeed.ca

In addition to that linkedin is very handy for professional level. Try to expand your network in linkedin with canadian professionals of your field. A plethora of people has got job only through linkedin.

Note: Not necessarily that you will not get your first job in your area; may be tough but not impossible. At least for initial couple of months, try to find job in your own area. A lot of people I know who landed and recruited in their own areas in their very first months of landing with having no Canadian education or Canadian experience at all. So have faith and do not get panic. There are jobs, you just need to find one written for you. Sooner or later, you will get it. Its only a matter of time. Important is, keep on trying upgrading your credentials to Canadians in case you are having difficulty finding job.

Hope this helps. Should you have any question, please do let me know.

Dear jawadahmed6065,

Well written, excellent tips and good effort. :) + 1 from me to you (and I expect same from you every week +1 ;) till my ++ will be more than my posts numbers. Hahaha... :D ;D just kidding 8) )

You were the lucky person to get job in your field within few weeks after landing in Toronto. Many factors are involved in geting job or quick response from recruiter and employer which you have mentioned in your post. Other some of the important factors are,

1. Your profession or field,
2. your resume and cover letter presentation,
3. your job related knowledge and experience,
4. how well you are prepared for interview,
5. how knowledge you can demonstrate during interview,
6. your positive approach
7. your luck, your written time to get (your bounty)
8. your faith, prayers, and blessing

(All of us may not have these things at the same time to support in getting the right job. For me last two items are very important which everyone should have from Al-Mighty God (Allah) in getting anything including the job, I believe that all of the above you have, and you deserve the best job which you got already. We are praying for you to have more success in your field. We are also praying for everyone to be successful in this country and those are not yet here they may be successful to come here and settle.

Luckily People in non-regulatory profession are having the more chance to get the job in their field. Even if you have all things above mentioned, and extraordinary qualities but unluckily your profession is regulatory you these recruiter and all tips are useless, you may be need many years to prepare and attend your exams, study, bridging program and blah blah.. And finally you may end up with survival jobs.
The examples are doctor, nurses, engineers, lawyer etc... Many of them are driving taxi, doing security jobs, low paid or odd jobs.
In addition, if your profession is regulatory profession then you have to straggle and straggle and work hard to survive or you may have to think about career change.

My suggestion is you have to be positive and one day may you will get your desired position. Many examples of successful immigrants are front of us. No doubt in Canada you have to upgrade your knowledge in any profession or field doesn't matter it is regulatory or non-regulatory; Canada is the land of opportunities for immigrants here is the study.

Thank you Dr.Hasib

I was just kidding with jawadahmed for +1, :D it doesn't make any difference to me. The main concept and focus should be, that we have to share good ideas, suggestions, opinions, piece of advice and our individual experience which other forum member should have some benefit in their settlement process. Many forum members are doing this job perfectly and very beautifully. I am just contributing my part little bit.

Dear Mayank,

If you wish to continue as Pharmacy technician you need license. It is not so lengthy process like physician , nurses, lawyer or engineer...etc.. but still it will take time to register. Better you can do 10-12 month local pharmacy assistant program and you will be able to work as pharmacy assistant, it good demanding profession in Canada. You may enroll your self in Bachelor of pharmacy program. If you need to join in marketing it is very good and you will get the jobs very soon comparing with pharmacy job. Many companies do not required any Canadian experience and second language is an asset to get sale or marketing job, same thing in computer related jobs.

hope its help

Mayank,

Confusion won't help any one. Set your short term and long goal, work hard to achieve your target.
Success never come to any one in a golden plate and nor be presented front of us. However, we have to struggle with commitment for success.

TIPS FOR GETTING HIRED LONG DISTANCE
By now you've read every bit of advice that explains how to make yourself more attractive to employers. You know to clean up your online profiles, update your résumé, practice your interview answers, and network. But what if you're looking for a job in a different time zone?
Long-distance job hunts bring with them a special set of requirements that can seem daunting at first, but aren't all that much worse than a regular job search. With a little planning, you can conduct a long-distance job search that will land you a job in any city you want.

Choose locations
Hunting for a job in a single city is difficult. Hunting for one in all the provinces is virtually impossible. Rather than approach your job search as a nationwide Easter egg hunt, decide what cities you want to focus on. Although you might be open to any location that will offer you a job, you should make a list of five or 10 cities where you can see yourself working.

Know the job market
When you're looking at potential locations for your job search, do some research on the local economy. Not all cities offer the same opportunities. Although you know that local unemployment rates differ from city to city, remember that industry vitality is just as diverse. One city might have a low unemployment rate, but your industry isn't necessarily enjoying the same boom. Look at data from Stats Can and peruse online newspapers for localized information.

Use your network
The glory of social media is that networks aren't confined by geography anymore. Look at your Facebook friends and you probably know people other provinces. Use your contacts from all of your social media profiles to publicize your job search and ask for any information that could guide you toward the right opportunity. When it comes to job hunting, you can't ever have too many people looking for jobs on your behalf.

Brush up on your phone skills
Phone interviews typically come before any in-person interview, but the likelihood of them increases greatly when you're searching long distance. In most cases, employers won't expect you to fly out for a first-round interview, so a phone interview is most common, and you shouldn't take it lightly. Practice speaking at a calm pace, be certain your phone signal is strong and do a few dry runs with a friend.
Perhaps most importantly, job seekers are often afraid to appear impolite when interviewers call and say, “Sure, I can talk right now.” If you are caught off guard or if you are in the middle of feeding your children and doing laundry, you can be honest. Even if you ask for 15 minutes to go to a quieter room, you want to create the best setting for your interview.

Decide if you'll travel for an interview
Sometimes you'll get to a second or third round of interviews when the employer wants to meet you in person. Sometimes the company pays for travel, but other times they don't. Set a few ground rules for yourself in order to determine what opportunities you consider worth your time and money. Also, if asked to travel, find out as much information as possible about so that you can make the arrangements that work best for you. See what dates are available (so you can book the most affordable flight) and how long the process takes (so you know if you can fly home that day and save hotel fare). You want to know as much as possible beforehand so you can make the most informed decision possible.
Travel
Relocating for a job is a big move that can pay off for your career, but it can also require sacrifices. Leaving behind your friends, paying for the move, and spending the time on the move itself all require a lot of energy. You want to be certain the city you're moving to is worth it, so if you haven't visited in a while or ever, find a way to visit before you move. Not only will you find out if the culture is right for you, but you will also get a better idea of the layout. You could realize that you should extend your job search to nearby suburbs or towns, which can open up a new set of possibilities.

Know your own relocation plan
The most important part of your long-distance job search is having a flexible game plan. Without a job offer, you might not have a definitive move date, but you should have an idea of what is possible in case you get an offer. Employers know you're not a local candidate, so they will want to know how soon you can start and when you plan to be in the city.
If you get an offer and then say you need time to put your house on the market, find a good school for your children, and decide where you want to live, you'll probably lose out on the opportunity. Most employers understand the complexity of a long-distance job search, but they don't have six months to wait for you, either. A flexible plan allows you and the employer to negotiate a mutually agreeable start date while also showing that you're serious about relocating.
