Clement, accept the offer of arbitration made last week by the Professional Association of Foreign Service in order to end the strike undertaken by its members.

In a statement issued shortly after noon Tuesday, the deadline set by the union for an answer, Minister Clement has said he accepts the offer subject to certain conditions that should not be made public.

"The Government of Canada introduced the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers offer is fair and reasonable for employees and taxpayers. Last week, the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers asked the government to resort to binding arbitration to end the union strike. The government is willing to go to arbitration, subject to certain conditions, "said Minister Clement.

"These conditions are subject to the confidentiality of the negotiations and can not be made public, he added. We will continue to negotiate in good faith and we appreciate the efforts of bargaining agents to end the strike. "

The minister said that foreign service officers have unique jobs that can not be compared to others. "These jobs are very different from those of lawyers, economists and trade officials in the public service. In addition, the Foreign Service has no problem recruiting or retention, "he said.

"Our goal is to fully restore diplomatic, consular and other services to Canadians as quickly as possible. We continue to take steps to ensure the timely processing of visas, "said Minister Clement.

The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) responded by saying that it is reviewing the terms of the Minister and will follow up directly with the Treasury Board.

"PAFSO must ensure that any arbitration mechanism will allow a full and fair hearing arguments from both sides, a goal no doubt shared by the government," said the union in a statement.

PAFSO appreciate the government's attempt to find a solution to this dispute and remains hopeful that both parties can agree responsibly. "Until there is an agreement, there will be no change in the means of pressure put forward by PAFSO." sana matapus na ang strike!!!
