"you may not hear from us for a little while. this is normal, ..." to
"We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you."
since the system upgrade. Can anybody confirm if this applies to all applications or just mine?

Looks like it's not about system upgrade. I had 'You may not hear' since AOR then changed to 'We are processing' few month ago. Then I got MR, PAL, ADR since then.

I have a question. I have received the nomination from Ontario under OINP Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream. I am now waiting for police clearance to apply for PR. My doubt is... I am currently working with the employer who sponsored me under this stream with an Open Work Permit which expires on March 2022. Along with the nomination I got a Work Permit Support Letter. Should I change my current Work Permit? Or could I be still working with the Open Work Permit that I have (I hope to get PR before March 2022? Is there someone in the same boat?

You should stick with your OPEN work permit. Work permit support letter is used for those who has WP expires soon and don't have enough time waiting for FN (from AOR) to apply a bridge work permit (open as well), in this case, they can use that letter to apply a closed work permit.

Mine also changed like you today, and there is no progress bar. I do not know what it means?
