Congrats huertdiaz and SarahRuiz!!! What's the date you received your PR, so we can update it on the spreadsheet?

On the other topic, CIC also has to ensure that people don't come to Canada just to abuse the system. In most European countries, even if you get your residence permit, it doesn't guarantee you social assistance, good health care, etc. Since the volume of immigrants is huge, it's obvious they cannot take everyone like that. For example, in Finland we also have the social assistance system, but we also don't get so many immigrants so it would become an issue. I think the government of Canada should consider not giving a permanent residence right of the bat, but a temporary one for couple of years (in Finland it's 4) in the beginning. If the marriage breaks before the four years that you have to wait for the PR, your residence permit gets canceled.
Congrats indeed to the PPR'ers! Thanks Aniabella for the insight as well on Finland, agree with your concept of issuing a conditional visa (TR) building to PR, with the restrictions/cancellations cited. I suppose the well paid bureaucrats at CIC in Ottawa have thought this back & forth & back again too, maybe they'll get it fine-tuned one of these days!

Thank you all ! It is a good feeling ;)

We got PPR on June 16th 2014

Congratulations to all who got PPR
God bless you

Hi!!!

We just got our Passport Back!
We are so happy!! ;D
Congrats huertdiaz! So I can mark you as "visa received" as of today?

My partner from the U.S. received an email asking for a number of things within 60 days:

- FBI clearance
- Medical exam
(both of these were expired, so I expected that)

- Copy of Accidental Death Insurance, Wills & testaments (as advised on IMM5490), as well as residential rental agreement
(I'm pretty sure I already sent the insurance and wills. I own my condo (my name only), so I don't have a "rental agreement." I wonder what I should do in this instance.)

- CSQ
(we are slow getting this submitted, due to lack of funds)

- RPRF

Does the fact that they are asking for the RPRF mean that they are almost finished processing?

Actually, there is an immigration law in Canada, came into affect October 2013, which says if the marriage breaks within the first 2 years after the foreign spouse arrived in Canada, the PR is cancelled.
