We just got an email from immigration!

We're not in the clear yet. We are missing three documents which we need to provide within 60 days:
- an FBI criminal record check (which we have no idea how to get because we're living in Japan right now...)
- IMM 5409—Statutory Declaration of Common-law Union form
- copy of passport

Hopefully we will be able to get the criminal record check done in time. I'm happy that we are finally hearing back about our application but also stressed at the same time. Why couldn't they just be happy with the Japanese criminal record check we sent them? We've been here for 7 years now!

current FBI checks take 25 calendar days to process, not including mail time. See here...

i have read they will mail the record outside of the US, so you can ask them to send it to you directly in Japan. If the applicant is a US citizen or has lived in the US more than 6 mo. at a time, then it is required to supply one. It doesn't matter that you've been out of the country for 7 years. Usually 10 years is the cut off if there even is a cut off for police records.

That's good news too! Nice to hear smth from the VO, I'm still waiting for my RPRF request, though we decided to do like Edgehead and pay it now to hopefully avoid some hastle.

I have word they received the receipt, after an email, but they probably won't look at the file till July. Should not have waited with paying it..

Nop, so I have a bad feeling they might not have received my CSQ or something else similar. Will have to see once my GCMS notes arrive if they're missing something... At least we're going to pay today just to get that done, should have done it much before but I wasn't sure if it's ok without the request... Since Edgehead seems to have done it successfully, we're gonna go ahead with it as well.
