Hello, Good afternoon,

Seeking clarity on a specific situation.
I travel regularly to Canada to visit my Fiancée who is a Canadian Citizen, we are getting married in September in Canada. Is there anything preventing me from being granted Permanent Residency or work while i wait?
1. I will be awaiting the marriage certificate to use as part of the documentation for PR, will this be eating into my 4 month period?
We will be applying for sponsorship and open work permit as soon as the certificate comes through.
Will the open work permit allow me to stay and contribute to my household while awaiting the final decision on PR application?

Warm Regards,

Warm Regards,

There is nothing stopping you from applying for PR inland and including an open work permit with that application. You must include the marriage certificate with your PR application. The 4 month wait time for the open work permit doesn't start until the complete PR application and OWP package are received. So yes - from that perspective, the wait for the marriage certificate is going to cut into those four months since you can't apply until you have the certificate in hand.

Thank you for your quick response,
If I notice that the time is cutting slim can I then apply for an extension (1month before expiry)

Best bet is to get married at home because RGD gives you a certificate that you can use and apply then you can come here and apply inland. You would eliminate the wait time for the marriage certificate.

Hello all!
Not sure if I’m in the right spot but searched for relating topics and I wasn’t successful...
My husband who is in Jamaica received an interview request today. I was curious to know if after the interview, they tell you right away if you are successful and if they give you your PR?
I will be going to meet him for his interview.

Many thanks!!! ☺️
