Thanks friends , for keeping us aware about these things.Initially it matters a lot.

Accounts i appreciate your efforts for starting such a wonderful thread.

Any one having idea what is the cost of a branded laptop in Canada that costs approx RS. 35,000-40,000 in India ( e.g 2.2 GHz core 2duo processor, 3 GB DDR3 Ram, 320 GB hard disk, 15'' wide screen).

should i buy it in India or buying from Canada would be a better option.

Hi,

I have omitted some important things to mention which can be useful for ladies those who wear Saree & blouse, Salwar Kameez/chooridaar : Keep some extra pairs. Of course you can buy from Indian stores here, but you won't find good selection with reasonable price as in India. Also don't expect the quality and expertise from a tailor for blouse stitching, like you get in India.

Those who like to wear western attire or jeans with tops, there is no problem at all. But bring some Indian made cotton tops new designs. You can get good quality jeans, tee shirts, polo shirts here in factory outlets during their discount sales period. Most of the cotton dress what you find here are made either in India or in China even for branded manufacturers. Bringing cotton underwears ( briefs, panties, vests etc.. ) from India at least for one year use is better.

Caution: Keep to the maximum allowed weight limit for your baggage. No excuse at the airport for overweight.

Hi JSP,

You could get refurbished laptops from manufacturers themselves.

For Lenovo, its available online with great discounts. My Boss has a very good experience with refurbished laptops. I am sure it will be there for all other brands too. Dont go for refurbished laptops other than the brand themselves.

Hope this information is useful.

we get a multi plug which fits in there. it has different sockets and pins according to different countries(UK, US/CANADA, JAPAN). costs around INR 100-200.

thanks wilson.. good advice. indian clothes r better to carry and also undergarments(must buy) for both males n females. western clothes r better in canada n reasonable.(not much difference). However about weight limit it depends on the airlines. i went by turkish airlines last year on visitor visa they allowed me 4-5 kgs extra in each baggage. On my way back also i was lucky to bring extra weight. they dint bother at all. esp at delhi. HOWEVER I WUD ADVISE TO STICK TO THE RULES COS WE R GOING ON IMMIGRANT VISA. Or u can put some spare stuff in corner which u can jus take out and give back to relatives who have come to see u off at airport if they r strict otherwise u can go.

just had a word with brother in Vancouver:

Costly in Canada, pls carry them for the first time( you can save some CAD there initially), might sound ridiculous to some members.

1. Tea leaves.
2. Garam Masala, Spices, tea masala (very expensive there)
3. Indian basmati rice (though heavy luggage)
4. Pure Ghee
5 dont carry pulses, flour, refined oil, face creams (they are cheap there & Good quality as compared to India)
6. Soap Bars, tooth paste...
7. Shampoos.
8. dont purchase mobile phones, blackberries from India (they come in bundled offer there, you can purchase them in canada virtually at zero prices (2 to 3 years term)

9 electronic items are expensive there, i checked some web stores there is difference of 1500 to 2000 INR in the prices of I pods, cameras
10 laptops are expensive there (though good configuartion is available there).
Is it still applicable in 2018?
