Hello all,

Im new here and I'm in need of some information regarding the process.

Let me explain my situation.

I just received an ITA in my express entry profile and was in the process of collecting relevant documents for the submission. My main NOC code is 2173 [Software Engineer] with over 5 years of relevant experience in that field but had worked for one year in the past as Technical Support Engineer. In the express entry profile, I referred to various posts here and felt the NOC code most suitable for this specific job was 2171. But on receiving the reference letter from my employer, the job duties and responsibilities doesn't match with that of IRCC job duties, whereas it matched with the NOC code 2282.

My question is..
Would it affect my profile if I correct the NOC code, now that I received the ITA?
My main NOC code 2173 is correct and matched with that job duties, but this specific employment NOC code seems to be mismatched.
What would be the best way to correct this?

you can change it when you fill out your application.
Hi Navin, Thanks for the quick response. But what you wrote is not clear to me.. Did you mean I can go ahead and change it in the express entry profile now? Or is there another application that needs to be filled? I am learning as I go about this... So not very much knowledgeable regarding this.. Would really appreciate if you could explain it a bit.

You can have work experience in another NOC, it's not an issue.
Hey, yes I know that work experience in another NOC is not an issue. But in my case I entered it incorrectly. I should have put 2282 in place of 2171 for that specific job and now I have received the ITA. So really worried if I can change it in the profile. Please advice. Thanks

Once you get the invite your profile becomes locked and you go to the next step, which is the application. You can still change things like this at this point as long as you don't drop your score below the cutoff for your round.

I don't see how this is an issue at all. It doesn't change your score because:
1. They are both at a high enough skill level.
2. You already have 5 years in your primary NOC, so its not even gaining you points in the first place.
(I am assuming these are all foreign experience where the max points is 3 years. If they are all Canadian the max is 5 years, so you still don't need it. If they are a mix of foreign and Canadian then you are getting points)

Besides they are aware that choosing an NOC is difficult. If you are really that worried put a letter of explanation saying you realized the new NOC is a better description of your job but I don't think that's necessary or will help. You could even remove the job to to the personal information section if it's not giving you points.

You can always send them a webform asking them to correct it on your profile.

Yes, all these are foreign experience. That was exactly what I was looking for, well explained and addressed the issue I am facing. Thank you very much. :)
