Issue with relative residing in Canada

Hi folks,

At the time of filling the details for Express Entry, I had selected YES for 'Any relative residing in Canada?' and had selected Brother as my relative.
Later I came to know that first cousins (Uncle's son) are not considered as brother in Canada.
Luckily I could change the answer to NO from YES as I had an option to update my application.
But now there will be a change in score. And I am still eligible as per the cut off score for the pool. And I will give them a detailed explanation in a document.
So is there a chance of any problem after they receive all my documents?

Kindly suggest.

As long as you explained it well and realise that it is a deduction in points, it shouldn't be an issue. BUt no one can really tell you that apart from the CIC officer (may be thinking different). Why did you think your Uncle's cousin was your brother anyway?

If you're a FSW applicant you have to be careful of not going below the required 67 out of 100 points under the six selection factors.

You can make the change in your actual PR application. Points and program eligibility will be recalculated after you submit and if it is still above the cutoff for the round in which you received ITA, you will be fine. Do include this in your letter of explanation.

Okay that will be great. Surely I'll include the letter of explanation. Still I am far on safer side in terms of cutoff points.

As per Indian culture, Uncle's son is considered as brother. Anyways, it was my bad.
Fingers crossed.

In some cultures all adherants to the same religion are considered as brothers.
Unfortunately CIC uses the standard brother definition as either being the same child of one of at least 1 of your parents / guardians or being an adopted child for at least 1 of your parents / guardians
Be also aware, that if ever you get ITA and then you correct your score. Your new score has to be equal or above required CRS score for that draw (if it is equal, it has to meet the tie break condition).
One more thing, for the purpose of entering EE pool, you can use a wider range of your relative. So your cousin may still qualify to give you points.

So you can choose to remove it completely (if you will have enough entering points - min. 67). Then all you need is a short explanation.
Or you can remove it from the CRS part, but keep it for FSW part. Then you need your explanation letter and you will still need to prove his family ties to you.

Good luck
