Issue of Permanent Residence Card

Hello all I am new to this forum, strings of questions came to my mind after I got confirmation on the permanent residence status under the Provincial Nomination category from the province of Alberta.

Where I stand currently is that I have my passport stamped with the Immigration visa and I have my CPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence) papers. My questions are as follows

1) I wanted to know how long does it take to get the Permanent Residence Card after landing in Canada.
2) What is the process if I have to leave Canada before receiving the Permanent Residence Canada

It will be really appreciated if anyone in the forum can share their experience in relation to question above.

It takes about 30 -40 days to get the PR card. It is strongly advised that you leave Canada only after getting the PR card

If you want to leave before you get the PR card you need to apply for PRTD ( PR travel document) to renter Canada. Same will be issued after the embassy verifies that you meet the residency obligation.

If you choose to reenter Canada by non commercial vechile ( likeyour or rented car) then CPR will be sufficient to re enterinCanada

Thanks for the above information. I think i should provide more details. I am currently working in US and still working on getting a job offer in Canada so I do not think 30-40 days wait time would be an option for me. The immigration visa issued to me is expiring in October so I think I have to finish my landing process before that. Do I need to apply for the PRTD documents before I land in Canada.

One additional information I have been approved under the provincial nomination programme not sure if that makes a difference.

Any input on the above is appreciated

Yopu need PRTD when u re-enter Canada second time w/o PR card. You cann apply for the same from Canadian High commission in US before landing in Canada

Other approach can be that you take flight till US canadian border and take a rented car from the US border into canada and would need CPR only

Thanks for the information again. So what should be the strategy when when completing the landing procedure? Do I have to give the interviewing agent an address to mail the PR card or should I let him know clearly that I would be coming back to collect the PR card

You need to provide a mailing address at the border if you want your PR card posted there. If you don't you will have to apply yourself on a later date and I think that usually takes longer to arrive.

Thanks for the information again.Couple of follow up queries i had
- If I am proving a mailing address is it necessary that I provide an address of the province from where I entered Canada
- Another query I have is related to the port of entry for finishing my Landing procedures.For completing my landing procedure is it necessary that I enter Canada in the Province of Alberta since I was approved for immigration under the AINP (Alberta Immigration Nomination Program) or I can do this at any other Province in Canada.
