Is Welfare a bad thing for asylum seekers?

My family and I are on welfare since almost a year as we did not receive our work permits until last month. Now we got our work permits and we are looking for work. I heard somewhere that the welfare is not good for refugee claim cases and may reflect bad signs about you.
I asked my lawyer and he told me that it is not correct and welfare can't have any impact on the refugee cases.
Currently I am attending a French course and looking for work but what I found is work opportunities just during my French course time slot.
I really confused and concerned, I want to study French but don't want to hurt my case if Welfare is really bad thing for us as refugee claimants and started thinking to quit my course and start work ASAP.
Any experiences, thoughts??

Welfare has no impact on your refugee claim at all. It is a myth.

It can be bad and negatively impact an H&C application.

I don't see how there would be a negative impact to a refugee application. IMO you are fine.

Agree that it is not an issue for asylum. If your case is weak and you think you may get denied working would be best if you think you’ll need to apply for H&C.
