Is visa extension required for entry in canada

Hi,

I have arrived Canada on 30th Dec 2011 and my work permit as well as visa got expired on 1st Nov 2012. Also, the work permit has now got extended till 28th Nov 2013 but have not extended visa yet. In this case, I am planning for holidays in US in the month of Aug for week time and enter Canada again. I am wondering I would need the Visa while I enter Canada but not sure if the Work permit itself would suffice or not. Could you please help if Visa is mandate to enter Canada?

Also, how about if I plan for holidays in Cuba. do I still need the visa?

You need to apply re-entry visa (TRV) before you leave Canada otherwise you will be stranded. Extention of work permit would not suffice, it's only allow you to work.
