CIC requested RPRF, and a medical exam on December 1, 2013.

I completed the medical and paid the RPRF that week, and ECAS was updated with Medicals Received mid-December.

Since then, I've had two e-mails from CIC, one that requested the RPRF again on December 18, 2013 and another one requesting an RCMP clearance on January 15, 2013. I had already done the RCMP clearance last year, so I e-mailed and told them about it, to which they responded saying I didn't need to do it again.

I feel at this point I should have received a passport request since I've been approved in principal according to GCMS notes, and I've paid and submitted practically everything that is required.

Is waiting this long for a passport request normal? Is it possible that they have misplaced and/or left my file in a pile where it doesn't belong (based on the duplicate clearance request above)? Any other people still waiting?

Thanks

Lithium,

First question, are you from Pakistan? I think I remember from one of your earlier posts that you were. If so, you can expect a somewhat longer security check. I've seen anywhere from 2 months to 6 months, and don't know any Pakistanis that haven't gone through a longer security check. I'm also from Pakistan and it's 2 months now since I received my MR.

My RPRF and MR were received on Dec 6th. At the time my GCMS notes mentioned that I was recommended passed. Medical results were received Jan 17th. But my ECAS status stayed at app received until Feb 3rd when it changed to in process, and I received a second RPRF and MR email. My thoughts are that that happens when they change the eligibility to passed, and erroneously send a second request. So check to see if that second request came when you were changed to In Process.

I would recommend you send a quick note to CPC-O, and they may respond saying your background checks are underway.

Thanks spookyb. Yes, I'm from Pakistan.

I just assumed security checks were complete when they request RPRF and a medical exam, but I suppose that's not the case.

No, security is usually the last step. But CIC has no control over the process as it is carried out by CSIS. For most applicants, CSIS just sends a "no trace" notification. For applicants from some countries, the process is longer, as CSIS checks databases and gets information from other agencies. There are details on the CSIS website that you can check. Almost any case where the PPR doesn't come immediately after the medical results have been received is probably stuck in security screenings. I read in a recent report that the current CSIS reponse time is close to 50 days "on average".

Anyway, let's keep in touch to see how the process plays out and how long it takes. Best of luck to both of us!

Do you know which countries are included in this? And does it matter if you are a man or woman? I am from Iran! So I am thinking maybe I will go through same process!

Only CSIS knows the criteria for longer background checks.

I'm from Iran too. It's hard to tell but given the current political state, Iranian applicants are more than likely to wait even longer than applicants from Pakistan. Trackitt timeframes show a general increase since last year.

Don't worry, it will come eventually.
