Here's the scenario.

I just landed in Calgary as PR (FSW) got my SIN and health card. The job opportunities here are few nowadays. I have applied for more than 30 jobs online and still haven't found a job, even part time in retail or supermarket. Now, someone is inviting me to try my luck in SK because she can help me find a job. I'm considering moving there to "try" it but I'm worried if I have to change any documents like my SIN or health card. I like it here in Calgary but I just need a job to support my travel plans in December. So technically, I will just be working in Calgary or SK until December, go for 2 months travel, and then come back here. I outlined my questions below to avoid confusion.

1. Do I need to change any of this even I will just work in SK until December? SIN, health card, bank account, address for the PR card (on process)? Personally, I don't want to change it because I want to settle in Calgary once the economy gets better. I'm just worried if it's required by the government.

2. Is it easy to travel within Canada even I don't have a PR card yet?

3. Is it safe for female to travel alone by train?

Thank you in advance!

1. your sin is issued once when you become a pr and it never changes thereafter, that is like your date of birth which you cant change. so you dont worry about your sin. you would need a new health card from sk if you start residing there. check with them how soon they start your coverage when you move from other province.

you are better off updating your address to receive your pr card or you can go to canada post and sign up with their forwarding service which forwards all your mails from your old address to your new one for a fee/month. so even if cic sends your pr card to your address in alberta it will forwarded by canada post to your new address in sk.

2.you can travel anywhere in canada without your pr card. however, you cannot come back to canada without it, if you happen to leave the country. in this case, you will need a travel document in lieu which you get from the chc in your home country.

3.i would say yes. but i have no personnel experience as such.

I did bus from Alberta to Sk on a fairly regular basis for awhile with no problem and I am female. I don't think your likely to have any issues by train either.

Generally speaking public transportation in Canada is pretty safe with a few exceptions.

As others have said, SIN doesn't change but the health card is issued to people who are committed to living in the province at least 6 months a year. If you leave AB now and use your health card in SK and do not end up living in AB 6 months a year, you could be accused of health care fraud and back charged what they paid for you. On the other hand, if you come to SK, sign up for a health card there and do not end up staying there 6 months a year, the same could happen there.

You have two ways to deal with this. Either make sure that your move to SK is only temporary and that you return to AB within 6 months or make your move to SK permanent

Safe? You live in Canada, everywhere is safe....

(When people say "safe" I think in northern Mexico near the border, or in the Harlem at 4am...)
