Is there any fee to be paid when ITA is received?

Hi All,

I need your advice on ITA. Would there be any fee to be settled upon receiving of ITA? See below as quoted by an immigration agency:

$2,400 CAD to be paid once we receive the Invitation to Apply (ITA)

I am not sure about this, but I do not read anything from CIC website about paying when ITA is received. Please advise especially for those who have gone through the process after receiving an ITA.

Could this just be a way for the immigration agency to earn money?

I believe those are fees just for the agency, not CIC. We did pay $2080, though, when we sent the application for two people in to CIC after getting the ITA. The total payment to CIC for each person is $1040.

You don't have to pay the right of permanent resident fee up front, just the application fee.

Thanks opindersinghbuttar! Yes, I read that from the CIC website.. that's when I came to realize, how come I will be required to pay $2400 once ITA is received.

Thanks dobes! That's a lot of money if we'd calculate the difference of $2400 and $1040. I am the principal applicant.. no dependents, just a single application. So it should only costs me $1040. Yes, I believe so... the difference goes to the agency.

Hi All,

In connection with the replies above, I have a dilemma now. I actually signed up for an immigration agency who charged me $500 for assessment, giving me the checklist for the requirements I needed to comply, etc... guiding me on how to get them ready, and when I had every document ready.. I was charged $600 to create my Express Entry profile, and had me registered to the Job bank. I believe all of those fees went to the agency's pocket. It was too late when I read that I can do it all by myself. However, I do not want to regret about it anymore, rather a lesson learnt.. however, I want to save myself more money by not committing that same mistake again... I don't want to let out $2400 fee once ITA is received.. whereas it should only cost me $1040.

My problem is, I do not have the username and password for my EE profile. I was told that only the consultant has access to it.. with what I read on the CIC website, this is not true. Every applicant who lodges their EE profile will have the login details. I think it's just a matter of not giving it to me so that once I would receive an ITA, only them would know first, and will charge me $2400 to process it.. and if I won't provide that money, the agency won't further my application.

So my plan is, can I create another Express Entry profile? This time, I'll do everything all by myself.. until I will receive an ITA, etc. Would I not be penalize by CIC or won't there be any implication if I have 2 Express Entry profiles in total if I'd go ahead and create myself an Express Entry profile on my own, and proceed with it.. not the one uploaded by the agency.

Wow, what an unscrupulous agency! In your place, I would tell the agency to cancel the EE application they did for you, then go ahead and create a new one. You have no idea how much more they plan to charge you! It could be that the 2400 is just to prepare your PR application, and then they will charge you the $1040 separately.

I think you have the right idea, but I don't know if you can have two simultaneous Express Entry accounts. Someone else can tell you that. If not, and the agency refuses to cancel the one they have open for you, perhaps you can call CIC and get them to withdraw it from their end.

Good luck!

Thanks dobes! Here's what I would intend to do, I will actually ask them what's gonna happen if I terminate them as my service provider. Surely, they won't refund the initial payment I made.. but it would also save me more money on the second stage of the application. I would also confirm with them that if I terminated my services with them, will they pass on to me the login details created for MyCIC account? Cos if they do, I won't ask them to withdraw it.. I will just take it from there until ITA is received.. with the same EE profile number and Job Seeker Validation Code.

However, I have 2 things:

1. Surely, if I have to redo the creation of my EE profile on my own, there's no doubt, I can do it by myself.. right?

2. Dobes, have you gone through yourself the entire process of completing your ITA? I just need to confirm whether with the entire process, I don't actually need assistance from an agency.. as long as maybe, I know how to read, follow instructions with due diligence, provide all the required documents... then I should be good, right?

To others in this forum who can read this, feel free to comment. Your inputs are highly appreciated.

Yes. But having 2 active profiles for the same PA isn't the best thing to do. CIC has explicitly advised against this. Get the credentials of your existing profile from them if and when you are cancelling their services.

You don't need an agency. CIC doesn't require that you approach EE via any agency. You can do all of this yourself provided you have the patience required to read, question, analyze, decide and action.

Agree with the post above. Tell your consultant that you aren't interested in using their services again and that they should give you your login details. If they don't agree to give you the details don't worry still go ahead and create a new EE profile (which is very easy by the way). However send a CSE for the initial application explaining that you now wish to cancel your representative along with a new completed Use of Representative Form (IMM5476), then withdraw the application. Goodluck and do let us know how it turns out for you.

Thanks Asivad Anac! Yes, I started inquiring with my local coordinator (for now via Skype) what's gonna happen if I terminate their services. I was advised that they will check with the consultant/case officer assigned to me.

Thanks Anya654! I will send email tomorrow to formally let them know that I may cancel their services, and since I already paid for the uploading of my documents a.k.a Creation of Express Entry profile.. perhaps I can have the login details, and that I would have to continue it myself.

I was advised with the local coordinator earlier that she would arrange a Skype call between me and the consultant, but no update yet.

Thank you all for the encouragement.

Yes, truly, I think I can create an EE profile all by myself, and even can go through the whole process given if ITA is issued (hoping), as long as I do things with due diligence. I mean, many former applicants had their Canadian dreams fulfilled by going through the process themselves.

I think I am all set if I create an EE profile on my own, after I'd give the agency the confirmation of terminating their services. Speaking of credentials, I have all the hard copies with me. When they created the EE profile for me, all they had were soft copies that I sent them.

To all who have gone through the EE profile all by themselves, and eventually processed the ITA all by themselves too.. your expertise will be highly appreciated. Your techniques, tips, feedbacks will be taken with high regard.
