hi all:
I am going to file an inland spouse sponsorship application for my wife and also want to extend her current work permit in the same time. Her current one is called post graduate open work permit which she got
it after graduated from a public school in Canada.
My question:
Is the post graduate work permit the same as regular open work permit?

Thanks

Hui

Hi there, If you are talking about what she can do and work for Yes it is the same,BUT if if it is talking about the requirements of having and keeping it is different. A post graduate work permit is a one time non renewable opportunity that the government gives to graduate of post secondary institution that obviously you know. Once it expires you cannot renew it anymore. Unless the person has a PR application in process under federal, CEC and PNP stream in which they have recieved eligbility, permits are expiring, withing 4 months and is only waiting for the PR. They can apply for what is called a BRIDGING open work permit until the PR decision comes.

Be aware that you can only apply an OWP for her once the first stage or phase one (AIP)of your sponsorship is approved.
Although you can include the owp application it in the inland spousal application they will not start processing it until the Approval in principle, So the sooner you apply the better and hopefully her permit is not expiring soon. There is no implied status cause it is a different stream. She may need to get a job with an LMO, or get a TRV. goodluck! :)

Thanks marsiangal. So my wife's Post Graduate Open work permit is about to expire within 3 months. Since she is not able
to renew it, the question is how can she legally stay in Canada while the inland application is under process?
Does she have to apply for other visa?

thanks

Hui

Did you send the spousal application yet? Hopefully not. You can include an application of OWP with that.
