Is Prescool considered FORMAL School in Canada?

Hi,

My Child is below 4 years and is going to preschool. When I need to fill in educational details of child I still plan to choose the option Child has NOT attained school age yet.

Am I right that preschool in Canada is NOT considered formal school and thus I am appropriate in saying that child has not yet reached school age? I plan to mention that child is attending pre-school but then there is nothing called as "Education Record" for preschool.

Please help ASAP.

I have my child in preschool and thinking of mentioning that in the application. In terms of "Education record" i am thinking of getting attendance records from the school. Any other records will be good as weĺl.

This is my opinion but i will wait to hear what others have done in this regard.

preschool is daycare, not educational.

if you mention it under education you are risking CIC might ask you for educational records... so be safe, do not mention it.

Just tick the box 'child is not at school age'. Pre-school is not formal education.

I have a child who is going to preschool and had the same confusion like everyone. In the end, I checked both the boxes "documents attached" and "child not attained school age" and enclosed a letter of enrollment from my child's preschool. I also added a brief note to explain that it is a preschool program and thus, there is no educational record yet. So far, I haven't got any queries on this from CIC.

I agree with the suggestion from other members that you can just check "child not attained school age" and leave it like that. It is an easy solution, of course. My thinking was that why we should hide the preschool component and they would be aware that no educational records exist for preschool training. So it is up to you and whichever way you go, there is nothing wrong!
