Hello,

We are planning to land in Canada before our COPR expires and return to our country of residence. We are planning to move back in a few months. Is it absolutely necessary to provide pictures of our goods to follow especially for Jewelry and household stuff? How accurate should this list be and is there a max value in CAD that we can include in goods to follow.

Thanks!

No, but it's advisable for high value jewellery. Likewise for an appraisal. There is no maximum value... For high value items, such as jewellery and electronics, make an accurate list, with serial numbers. For household items, generic groups will be sufficient.

Thank you for you reply. In case if we don't have pictures for high value items will they consider if it is included in the goods to follow list? Has anyone not provided pictures and still able to get your form stamped?

We took no pictures and had no problems. However we have no valuable jewellery :(

I managed to get one but just had few gold rings. Besides, the overall import value was less.

You don't need to provide pictures if you don't have them. However, you may face some issues down the line when you travel. For example, if you are bringing a necklace with you, and have a picture that will be stamped upon your landing, then you can freely travel back outside of Canada with that necklace and not have troubles when you return (as you will have photographic evidence that you previously owned said necklace). If you don't have photos though, and you travel outside of Canada, you run the risk of the CBSA stopping you and asking for proof that you owned the necklace before leaving Canada. If you can't provide proof, they are within their authority to tax you on the necklace under the assumption that you purchased it on your most recent trip.
