For the purpose of immigration permanent means "Not temporary" So it is not defined by an end date and is open ended.

The probationary thing is standard and assumed and relates to labour law issues rather than immigration issues. Employers can fire you without recourse within the probationary period (whether immigrant or not) this protects them from you, not CIC.

Trust that clarifies :)

Pretty much all permanent jobs have probationary periods (including corporate jobs) - usually the probationary period is 3 months. It doesn't matter if someone is a recent immigrant or born in Canada - probationary periods are standard.

So I don't really understand the blog. Probationary periods have nothing to do with immigration. And pretty much all permanent jobs have probationary periods.

@scylla Banks have higher probation period for new immigrants (less than 2yr old)

Permanent jobs are considered to be more safe and if you have worked for 900 hrs you are covered with Job Insurance.

Overall nothing is permanent, and everything has its own benefit.. i have done quite a research before opting for one, so in one word you should choose what suits you and do not worry about they firing you.
