Hello,

I've been living in Canada since the beginning of 2005, so around 8.5 years.

When I sent my application, I didn't include a PCC. In my case, do I have to provide CIC with PCC for sure (later when they request for it)? If so, should it be from Canada or home country?

In case you're wondering, I came to Canada when I was 22 years old and I applied for CEC this month.

Thanks!

They will require it.
So you should probably prepare one handy if they request for it.
Check out the document checklist. It states all the information there.
Not sure about the age but I'm think since 18 years or 10 years whichever is closer.

From your home country for sure, and any other country you lived in since the age of 18 (not including Canada). Start now if it will take some time to get -

It says MAY. Not certain. In my situation I don't think I will have to. I've been in Canada since I was 18 and a few months. But I left the country I was living in before the 6 months were up since my birthday. Also I've never lived in my home country since I was 3 years old. That only leaves Canada.

It also says
"In general, you and everyone in your family who is 18 years of age or over need to obtain a police certificate. You must obtain a police certificate from each country or territory where you have lived for six consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18."

And on CEC document checklist clearly identifies PCCs as requirement. But if you don't include them with your application, CIC will request them.

Anyway - your first post says you came to Canada when you were 22, your second says when you were 18. Ummm...?

Whatever country you were living in when you turned 18 - you probably want to start getting that. When CIC requests the certificate you typically have 60 days to get them. That's easy from some countries, very difficult from others....

oops :) Thanks for clearing that up :)

Kushari - even though strictly going by the rules, it looks like you wouldn't have to submit any PCC, in practice CIC will request one at least from your country of citizenship; in your case, the country you lived in most of your life before coming to Canada is a good bet...

I don't get the point of rules, if they are not followed. They are there for a reason.

They ARE followed. CIC has the right to request any additional information at any time. Those are the rules. Just because you've been in Canada for a while doesn't mean you're exempt from the same criminal/background checks as the rest of us...

As I said before, you can wait and see if they request the PCCs, that is your choice...
