Re: CAIPS check
IT is not wise to get your CAIPS file unless there is obviously some problem
with the processing, such as very lengthy delays beyond the published times.
Don't ask for it just to find out how things are going.

Re: CAIPS check
Thank you so very much for your kind reply. The only reason I wanted to check is because at the time of interview they told me that in less than 2 months I shall get my visa, but more than 3 months has passed and no news. When I contacted the embassy by email, was told that "the verfication of my file is not finsihed yet and is expected to be finished in Feb. 2004". I do not know why suddenly the process is prolonged.

Once again thank you for your reply and I would greatly appreciate to learn about your comments about my case.

Re: CAIPS check
Mr. Humphries, what is the reason for this? Is it monetary or does it affect
anything?

Re: CAIPS check
It is an inconvenience for the visa office and provides little useful
information when there is no problem to solve. Also, it is full of short
forms and local office terminology that is difficult to understand.

Re: Do not order your CAIPS/GCMS unless it is absolutely necessary!

That post from Jim is over 8 years old, although I suspect it's contents are still very relevant and true.

Now, if only CIC would take the CAIPS/GCMS information and make it available via ECAS in a clear and legible format, there would be no need to CAIPS/GCMS notes. Applicants could get useful updates of all the attributes of their application without having to bother any visa officers or CIC operatives.

Thanks for this post. I thought cic is getting money for caips. Then i am surprised that earning additional money is 'inconvenience' for the visa office. What can be more convenient than easy money? :D

Dear Wayne,

Thanks for commenting. Actually this is very controversial. Some people have suggested including Mr.Qorax that ordering CAIPS doesn't affect processing of file and our visa office wouldn't even know if we had ordered CAIPS because CAIPS comes from a different office in Ottawa. But from this visa officer's statement that looks false. Thanks

There'll be no adverse effects.

1. CAIPS is independent from the CHC. It comes from Ottawa & the CHC is not aware of it. Thus, no worry with the IO.
2. Even if the IO does know, it doesn't matter. It's as per the 'Right to Information Act'.
3. All modes of getting one, as opined before, r fine. U may also log on to www.caips.ca. Costs: $40.00.
4. If u have a friend in Canada, he'll get u in $5.00. If u r thru an agent, he'll get u for Free [usually they don't charge u the $5].

All the best !

Do you really think that $5.00 covers the cost of someone obtaining the CAIPS/CGMS notes? Free for persons in Canada.

Re: Do not order your CAIPS/GCMS unless it is absolutely necessary!

The Only problem for the VO is that they need extra time and some physical work to do to fetch the File from the location where the files are kept. Employees never like to be overworked. lol. Visa officers probably dont get paid for processing CAIPS. CAIPS are glued with the files and initially this is fetched from Ottawa.

I dont see why people shouldnt order CAIPS as you just said, for obvious reason(s).

Dear Members,

Its healthy discussion.

What is your conclusion?

Should someone order for it except absolute necessary situtation?

Atleast we will develop a consent or majority thinking.

Respected Sir,

U r right, I could be wrong - many a times, why not? But here my response was purely to the OP's direct question to me. And that "I repeat" was b'coz it really was a 'repeat' of what I had stated earlier, w/out being "ultimately authoritative".

Qorax

IMHO, it should not bother the VO whether you retrieve your CAIPS/GCMS; it's your right to know what's going on with your file. Additionally, why would they be bothered in the first place? :O
