Hi,

i had got my student visa under spp for september 2011, but due to some family issues i did not join my classes . as my visa was valid for 2 years , i applied to a different course in a different college for jan 2012. but then in november i recieved a call from the embassy asking me about reasons for not going and future plans. i told them about my changing the college and course. so they told me that my visa is valid for the previous college only and i would have to apply for a new visa. instead of applying for a new visa , i contacted my previous college and took addmission in that college for a different course. but now i am confused.. Is my visa valid??? whom to contact to know about this. does the embassy entertain if i would go there with this query.. Please someone guide me....

Hi,

1. Your visa is valid as long as you have a valid admission status. Even to maintain this status, you need a letter of deferral for the same course from your school. Otherwise, you will certainly face a problem at the port of exit/entry, India.

2. Your best option would be;

-First get a letter of deferral for the course you secured visa. keep in mind, you shall be allowed to leave India (at airport) only on the production of letter of deferral + valid visa.

-Enter Canada,

-Change your course to the desired one. You don't need to notify anyone only if you are changing course at the same level.

okay...
but i have already changed my course at the same level i.e. it is also a post-grad certificate at the same college.
should i ask the college to provide me a deferrel letter????
or is producing the acceptance letter of this new course at the airport sufficient???
and how can i contact the embassy or inform them about this change???

Hi,

You are "unnecessarily inviting trouble" for yourself.

I repeat once again,

2. Your best option would be;

-First, get a letter of deferral
for the course you secured
visa. keep in mind, you shall
be allowed to leave India (at
airport) only on the
production of letter of deferral + valid visa.

-Enter Canada,

-Change your course to the
desired one.

I quote;

1. "but i have already changed my course at the same level i.e. it is also a post-grad certificate at the same college.
should i ask the college to provide me a deferrel letter?"

-keep your admission status running on for a second course, and also get a deferral letter for the first course. Use this deferral letter + visa to enter Canada.

4. "or is producing the acceptance letter of this new course at the airport sufficient???"

-I am not sure if Indian immigration officials at airport would like to welcome you and your new LOA, and thereby allow you to leave India. Why take risk?

3. "and how can i contact the embassy or inform them about this change???"

You do not need to inform anyone.

what is a defferal letter?
Hi,

It's called a 'letter of deferral' which validates your admission beyond the last date to join classes/late registration or simply upto the next intake.

It's like a new admission letter.
