Simple answer: if you are not sure you don't want to come here, don't come. Uprooting your entire life for a new country and culture is too big of a step to do on a whim when you're not even sure if you want it.

Right there...

i agree with qorax

There is no such thing that this is better or that is better. As stated by everyone here its the factors , an individuals need and circumstances and ambitions. I agree with most of the member talking about good standard of living and good medicals. You need to actually sit down and think that will you be able to come to Canada with an open mind that if yiou leave a managerial job in India and then come to Canada to take a junior level job will you be able to manage it, this is what you need to think. In my opinion, Canada is a huge country and is looking for development thats is why they have a strong focus on immigrants.

Always make your decision with the help and facts and support it with opinions of others, do not take decisions on just opinions.

Good one, I second that...

It's all depend on a person wether he or she would like to live in Canada or not. But Canada in my opinion is a better place to live and study. Rest is all depend on each individual.

U r not fit for Canada cos u dont want to take THAT RISK about your job and job prospects in Canada
In brief ,people like you are loser. So Be Indian and Slog Indian

Canada Calling,

Being Indian is not bad so as neither being canadian or any other nationality. So i dont agree to the wordings used by yourself for slog Indian. I would respect and urge bloggers to dont use such words which might hurt sentiments. This is an open space and we should utilize it for knowledge sharing not to disrespect.

Though what i would like to add here, as most of bloggers have already mentioned, its individual choice to go to canada or not. I am sure if he has applied for immigration and got it through he must have thought about it and gone through the entire set of pain which all are currently in or have been and reached for final decision of blessing with the beautiful canadian Visa, which i obviously envy ( as i havn't got even the meds yet :) ). He is just in delima of being in two boats and need assurance / satisfaction that things will fall in place.

So my friend SP2009,

Dont worry all will be good you have done your work let the destiny will do there's.

I wish you all the best for future aspects.

I know couple of previous co-workers and friends who went back to their naive countries after many years in US... They were offered good, high paying jobs in $$$ in India and other places.

Living in West, you have to deal with social and cultural issues, weather in case of Canada. Cost of living is high, typical family with a small house will need close to $4,000 each month to have a decent living?

Most professionals take few steps back to land a decent job and it will take few years before they can find a career opportunity.

Most world growth will come from Asia so keep that in mind as well.

Most important element in this scenario is finding a job but in your profession, if you can do that in few weeks/month then you are on the track. It a risk you might have to take but use ground realities/fact to make a prudent call.
My 2 cents.

hi calgirl

there r somethings which r not worth being commented upon. this is one of them. don't take it personally. all i can say is that i have learnt everything in India, on the basis of which i have applied for pr to Canada. so it does not matter what others think. if India can become a corruption-free, petty politics-free country then i m sure many of us will not think about leaving it. but unfortunatley that's not gonna happen in hundred years with leaders we have in many parts of country.

nice discussion...heres my 20 cents worth

for all of you who are wondering whether to make the move or not...heres a situation, analyse the situation and decide on your reaction from the choices I have provided below...based on the choice you make...you can decide whether to move or not

situation
======
You live in a middle class area, close by there is a below poverty line slum full of immigrant labourers, house hold help, beggars and so forth. The health standards and sanitation in your area is alright, but you have to cross the slum to get anywhere and they have garbage on the roads and occassionally sewage overflowing on the roads but the roads in your area are clean and better maintained, though you also have garbage on your streets. The slum ggradually grows and there are anti social elements living there now, not terrrorists but eve teasers, drug peddlers, prostitutes, rowdies etc. You have complained to your local authorities, no chanage. You have tried to address the issue in your local residents welfare association meetings, no change.

Now the slum has grown bigger, encroachments are taking place on the empty spaces in your area, your water and electricity are being stolen. The anti social elements are now on your street corners. Your wife/parents/sister/girlfriend face a harrowing time whenever they have to go out of the house...nobody does anything to them, but the journey is not a pleasant one. their pressure is passed onto you.

What do you do?

Choices
=====
1. You decide to move out of the locality, you sell your ancestral house, leave your neighbouors who have known your family for generations, move away from your local gurudwara/temple/church/mosque, your kids/parents/wife’s friends.
2. You decide to stay and ignore the things going on around you, you try to accept it as a change out of your control. You put up with it and stay there for whatever reasons
3. You decide to take matters into your own hands and make a change, you form a local welfare committee, constantly petition the authorities till you get a response, work with local NGOs for rehabilitating the slum people etc
4. You decide to get a bomb and blow up the slum!!

Results
=====
If you chose 1 – pack your bags, get your visa and get out!!...NOW!!..:) the situation mentioned above is India, a land which has great culture…only in its museums and history books, none in daily life. The real India is apathetic, crude, rude. Passive, complacent, opportunistic, intruding, dysfunctional and corrupt. The minute some people read this they are going to pounce on me and wax eloquent on India’s greatness…but in their hearts everybody knows the truth so please spare me!! India is beautiful, historical, colourful, warm (weather), welcoming (only to foreign tourists), resilient etc…but please also understand that these positives don’t make a speck of difference in an individual’s life…they lokk extremely good on tourist brochures and that’s that. Again LEAVE NOW!!

If you chose 2 – If you have decided to stay on and put up with your surroundings, you will be happy there no matter what…or you will force yourself to pretend you are happy. You don’t need change. You are ok with change…for good or bad but you don’t wish for a better life!.. Your history, culture, surroundings are more important to you than the quality of your daily life.

If you chose 3 – You are an activist, you should DEFINITELY NOT MOVE!!...stay and fight the negative change. Try your best to make a positive impact, change society and show everybody the better path. You will get your own statue after you die in the heart of the city and crows with uncontrollable bowels will forever remember you and thank you!! Or you just might get wiped off without a trace by some politician or local goon who has vested interests in the existence of the slum!!...either ways you will be a hero…posthumously!!

If you chose 4 – You require serious urgent psychiatric help!!

I chose 1. I do not like what I see and have to put up with. I do not wish to spend the rest of my life here wondering whether there will be electricity when I switch on the fan on a hot day, or whether the water will flow when I open the tap, I do not want to play the “guess where the pothole is and how big it is game” when it rains on the roads, I don’t want to have a bath, wear a crisp white shirt and reach office in a brown or black shirt thanks to the buses and lorries which run on a hybrid fuel mix of kerosene, petrol, and dog piss. I do not want to go to doctor because of ailments caused by no fault of mine…they are all environmental diseases..sinus, eye infection, skin infection, lung infection. I don’t want to bribe anybody to do their job. I have thought over this for a year and made my decision…I’m moving!!

I may have to work at McDonalds and serve burgers, I may have to live in somebody’s basement, I may have to bear with inhuman cold, I may face racism, I may not get the opportunities which I deserve as soon as I land. I am ok with all that because from my research I know that its only a temporary phase and I have the courage, determination, faith and perseverance to get through it and reach for a better life…and when I do I will get it and then there will be no looking back.

Canada may not be the best place on earth, but for me its better than where I currently am, and its giving me an opportunity to move…I am taking it!!

For all of you asking is India better or Canada better??....the answer is always a personal one…its like asking a crowd of people is biriyani better or burger better…the answers and the justification for the answers will always be beyond your imagination or comprehension..

Don’t take my word for it…do your own research..dont move because somebody you know moved and has a great life in Canada now…don’t not move because somebody else you know went there and is having a tough time…do diligent research and find out for yourself…if you have the money and time, plan your next holiday in Canada to get a better idea…you are the only one who can decide whats good for you!!

All the Best and God Bless

Cheers
Rishab

all well said! ITS BETTER TO GO TO CANADA FIRST AND LOOK AROUND. THEN MAKE UR MIND TO MOVE THERE PERMANENTLY OR NOT. DO NOT MAKE ASSUMPTIONS OF GOOD OR BAD JUST SITTING IN UR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. MY OPINION

"Average weekly wages were $23.72 per hour for Canadian-born workers in the core working age group of 25 to 54, which was $2.28 more than that of immigrant workers, according to the report.

The wage gap was larger - about $5 per hour - between those who arrived in the past five years and Canadian-born workers with university degrees.

"There is light at the end of the tunnel, though, because new immigrants who work hard on language skills and credentials do start to get the jobs they are searching for, over time and with help," noted Ronald Ma, a manager at S.U.C.C. E.S.S. who runs pre-employment programs."

So basically, after the first five years, we have a minor difference of 10% in wages, which probably decreases to even less over time. I'd say a lot of this is probably caused by language and cultural (especially work culture) issues that go away over time as the immigrant becomes immersed.

Also, one of the examples in the article was a student who had a degree in anthropology. It's not easy to get a job with a degree like that no matter where you're from...

Reality check

In my words, there is no better or worse country.
There are better or worse conditions and opportunities.

Looking at Canada I can see myself making it my new home.

In no way it means that I will change myself to a "Canadian", go under sort of "surgery", make my eye color blue by wearing contacts, or dye my hair blond.
Because there is no such a thing as "Canadian". Instead there is a great variate of different "flowers" living in that country making it a beautiful "garden".
I want to make myself and my family a part of that garden. I am sure we will blossom there.
I think about immigration as replanting my family, not as uprooting.

So, ask yourself, do you feel that way?

If you do, then start the process right away!
If not, then don't. Grow and blossom, continue being happy where you are!
God bless you!

I don't know where you are from but I think you should definitely go if the circumstances are right. You applied because you were not happy with your current country. I personally come from a country full of corruption, its polluted everywhere, people are defecating on the roads, the roads are full of potholes and I can go on and on. Canada gives me a better option to bring up my children. Everyone I know who moved from my country are happy in Canada but they did move when the economy was good and they got a job. It might be a different story. It might be better to live as a high income person in my country than a low income person in Canada but given everything equal, Canada is much better to live than my country for me.

Good luck with your decision
