I thought Trudeau said he was doubling the case workers for family class?? To effectively half the wait time for families to be together? I just checked on CIC website and the estimate for family class / spouse outside Canada still shows excess of 17 months.

What are our chances of a TRV in mean time? I am going through some health issues (including I had to have emergency surgery couple weeks ago) and really need my husband here. Is there any way they will allow him to come to be with his wife while she is going through multiple health issues / surgeries?? Or do they even care if I am stuck here without support?

I am awaiting surgery for one issue that may have serious career implications (though I will have a full medical pension if that happns so I won't lose ability to financially support him) but it's still very traumatic to deal with the stress. Also I just went through emergency gallbladder surgery and I am still receovering from that with some ongoing issues with my digestive system. The combination of both issues, the career implications etc is causing me huge stress and I am having to deal with it all alone. I know they will allow spouse to come for deathbed type of stuff, but what abou my situation where i just need the support of my husband to deal with these health issues? I can't go to India to be with him for them because I am not covered there for the healthcare. And I am still serving (military) in Canada for the time being.

We are applying for TRV for when he has some time off coming soon (*end of March) and I have sent protected B medical documents as proof of my medical conditions to include with the TRV application. The emergency surgery report from a few weeks ago and also the consult from specialist for upcoming surgery for the other issue. Not sure if it was ok to send Protected B information or not for this purpose... anyway its just my medical records. But will CIC understand the situation and allow him to come on TRV? I don't think I can handle waiting until June 2017 or longer!!!

They've removed country specific times. So the 17 months is some kind of funny average.

You certainly shouldn't be expecting to wait that long based on your husband's country of origin and visa office. I believe he'll be processed through ND- yes? You should be thankful your VO isn't Singapore.

As for what Trudeau promised - we all know there are pre-election promises and then what actually happens afterwards.

Oh - and to answer your TRV question, it's really impossible to say if it will be approved or not. Your medical conditions certainly won't guarantee an approved TRV.

I thought they consider medical issues though? I mean, going through multiple surgeries, and medical issues, I should have my husband by my side as he is my support... otherwise I am living alone, with no support to help me recover etc.

They'll consider it. But again, it doesn't guarantee approval. CIC will still want to be satisified that your husband won't overstay his visit given he has a PR application in progress - so he'll need to demonstrate ties to his home country. If I'm not mistaken, he has one or two refusals already - this unfortunately won't help. But by all means give it a try and include strong evidence of the medical issues. Your argument will be strengthened if you can demonstrate that you have absolutely no family in Canada to support you (i.e. no parents, siblings or other close relatives such as aunts or uncles).

Actually we found out both times, when we thought he had 'rejections' he was being scammed. The consultants he paid to submit the application took his money and did not actually submit anything. I received an email from CIC New Delhi and they confirmed they had NO file in his name whatsoever. So the idiots didn't even submit our application, and put us now nearly a year behind having him meet my Mom. Originally the TRV would have been prior to the marriage so less chance of rejection due to PR being in process. I was so mad! And he is taking them to court as we have proof from CIC that they did not submit the applications - the scam is that they do nothing wait several months and then calim CIC needs something more (so they need more money from you) etc. I told my husband PLEASE do not every trust any consultant again! Submit it himself this time. The good that came from it is, he has no rejections!

Well that's good news in one way.

Glad to hear you are taking them to court.

Try to post reviews of the consultant online as well. Make sure your review contains the full name of the firm - as well as words like "scam" and "fraud". The internet is powerful that way and your information may help others who happen to google their name.

Check the page about TRV(if you did not submit it yet), you will get many tips on how to make a good applications. especially what he will show as ties in his country.(like good Job, good salary, and other acquired wealth). let's say that a lot of people don't get TRV.but for some it is because their applications are not really convincing.

All the best.

Hi all!

I have a question. When we say that it is really still > 17 months for spouse outside of Canada..what exactly do we mean? Does it include the permanent resident application? What happens in the meantime, can your spouse join you in Canada or do they have to wait?

In particular, I (am a Canadian Citizen) currently living in Greece, with my Greek wife (and 2 children). I am currently in the negotiation phase for a job in Canada and if everything works out, within the next couple of months I will be moving there. I am starting the Sponsorship papers right now (outland application) and am trying to understand what will happen.

Thanks in Advance

If Greece is a Visa-exempt country the, you wife can come visit you in Canada , if not she can apply for TRV to come visit you in Canada and then you can apply for a visa extension once she gets there
Yes, sorry I forgot to mention that. She can travel to Canada for 6 months without Visa. So you mean that before the 6 months expire we would apply for a Visa extension, right? But does the 17 months cover the timeframe until she get PR status?

That timeframe simply refers to what CIC has posted online. I believe Greek applicants are processed through Rome. A straightforward case should be done in less than a year.

Yes you are correct that our application is processed through Rome.

Hopefully I will get the application done correctly and at once to avoid issues before we are ready to go.

Thanks for your response!

If only the same could be said about me. From everything I've read about the Singapore VO, I'm terrified to submit my application.
