My husband lives in the USA and i live in Canada...we are trying to find out if there is a bank we can both get in both countries so we can join our account? So far i have found no information about this...

Also, anyone have any other idea's to financially bond our relationship? Im planning on getting a credit card...can he co-sign even if he lives down in the states? (send him papers to sign).
Any information about this would be great...as im only 19 and i dont have any experience with this even before i got married haha.

Thanks so much!

Many banks will let you open a joint account even if you're not living in the same country. Call and ask the bank that you're using now what their policies are. You'll both need to physically be there, though, and remember to bring 2 forms of ID (driver's liscense and passport is probably easiest)

My husband and I have joint accounts in the USA (Chase bank) and Canada (RBC). So, yes, it's definitely possible.

Did you both physically have to go to both of the banks? Or just one bank with both of you, and you gave them your account information? Cause i can travel to visit my husband and go to his bank...but since he has no status in the US he cant come up here...

My situation is a little more complicated than most i guess..

Me and my girl have had since we started the sponsorship process, an RBC Royal Bank of Canada here in Montreal and RBC USA bank account (owned by PNC). Both under our names and we can easily transfer $ between the USA and Canada (since both of us still get income US dollars). I think RBC is great and it was the only bank that does this type of transactions between US and CA without huge fees.

You should check it out!

Yes, we both went to the banks together. However, when we opened our US account, I was on a tourist visa and didn't have SSN.

We use Bank of America and Scotiabank, if that helps. Sorry I may be too late to reply... ;)

Does anyone know if there is any issue with an american earning interest on a Canadian account? My wife is american and i want to put her on my accounts but am worried that the government will not want her to be earning interest in canada until she has a work permit.

I opened a joint US Bank account 2 years ago with my husband (we weren't married then), using my husbands US address. While he was here, we opened a joint account in Canada as well. No issues at all...

You won't find the "same" bank in both countries. Best I know of (same as previous poster) is RBC, if there is one near your US address. But one is American and one is Canadian. Yes, in Canada you both MUST go to the branch, each with two pieces of photo ID.
