Is it possible to delay Landing or... get this... ask CIC to take longer?

My wife and I both live in Singapore and applied for PR at the beginning of the year. We had hoped by now to already have a decision made, but no luck.

Unfortunately, the other aspects of our life do not revolve around CIC's uncertainty, so we've had to: 1) renew our employment contracts here, 2) sign another year lease on our apartment.

We're now in the uniquely bizarre position of wanting CIC to take even longer....

If by crazy chance of horrible luck we got approved tomorrow, is there anything we can do to delay landing for another year? Otherwise this is going to be very problematic as leaving on short notice would damage our relationship with our employers and we will lose a hefty apartment deposit...

No, you will have to abide by the COPR expiry date. However, there is nothing to stop you popping over to complete the "landing" procedure and then returning home to tidy up your life there.

Definitely do not ask them to take longer. The most likely result is that they would refuse the PR application and tell you to reapply when you want to go to Canada.
As noted above, you could just land in Canada, then go back to Singapore.

Thanks for the replies. I've thought about just landing and getting the PR and coming back here, but what if when landing my wife falls under "Condition 51" (we were married less than 2 years when we applied)? Wouldn't going back to Singapore for some time be considered breaching condition 51? Or would it be ok since we still technically live together?

I believe that as you would be together, you will still be in compliance with Condition 51. From memory, it doesn't say anything about being IN Canada for the 2 conditional years.

You need to live together, not together in Canada. In addition, living with her Canadian citizen spouse, the days in Singapore would count towards her Residency Obligation (minus any days when you weren't with her due to business trips, holiday, etc).

Hello Guys,

I'm in a similar situation as I may want to postpone my landing.
I see here and in other posts that it is OK to set foot in Canada before the expiry date and return home as an option. I assume it is OK to only make the application for the permanent residence card. However I read that it takes about 3 months to receive the card. I can of course give the address of a friend for the delivery. However, the next time I enter Canada, won't I need the Residence Card itself?

You can apply for a Travel Document if your PR card is not available to you by the time you wish to return to Canada.
