Is it possible to appeal the validity date of my visitor visa extension?

Hi everybody! I just received word about my application for a visitor record (extension of my visitor visa).

Some background: I came to Canada last February on a visitor visa. Before my six months were up, I applied for a visitor record (extension of my stay).

Today, I received a letter stating that my request had been granted. I was, however, only granted to stay until February 24th (a month away). Is there a way to appeal this decision to be given more time (let's say, another two months - I was planning on departing Canada in late March)?

Additionally, what happens if I overstay past the validity date? Probably not a good idea eh?

Thankful for any info on this. Cheers!

No appeal.

Apply for another extension before Feb 24th.

Yes, bad idea to overstay if you have any plans to ever return.

Sorry to say that but when you keep on overextending it makes them skeptical of you and any future applications you make. Most importantly when visitors abuse the system they make it hard for new visit visa applicants. Please be ethical!

Apply for another extension before Feb 24th - that’s allowed? Would that be done in the same way as the first extension, through the same form? Do I have to do it a month in advance (in which case, I’m already too late)?

The reason I want to stay is I want to leave by boat in late March (the freighter ships are not taking passengers until March because of COVID). If I give this as a reason for extending, would that be seen as valid?

Yes, it's certainly allowed. Yes, you would follow the same process you followed previously. There is no 30 day rule - that's just a guideline. Many people apply with only a few days to spare.

Your reason for requesting the extension sounds fine.
