Is it possible to access information from CIC with out file number

I guess my question is not relevant to this forum.
I want to access the information from CIC. i have client id, but i dont have File number. employer has processed my work permit. is it possible to access information from cic with out file number?. when i try to fill online request it is asking for file number.

can some one advise please?

Information about Work Permit? Yes, you should be able to get that by calling CIC and providing client ID number as well as other personal information.
