Is it OK for a student to restore status as a worker?

Hello guys, I applied to sponsor my wife's immigration July of this year, but due to a mistake, her application returned and now her SX-1 (student) visa expired.

As far as I know, we will have to request a restoration of status, but after multiple calls to Immigration Canada, I'm still not quite sure of the following steps.

During one of my calls to immigration Canada, I was told to apply for the Open work permit together with the restoration of status with a letter explaining the whole situation, but on a second call, I was told to request the restoration of status first and then, once my wife has status, request the work permit visa. 1) What do you guys think that would be better to do? Of course, we are in a hurry and would like to apply for both at the same time.

On both calls, I was told that it would be OK to reapply to the immigration sponsorship right way even without status. 2) Do you guys think that we should wait until my wife has status again to resend the sponsorship application?

Thanks a lot for the help!

You can submit both applications at the same time. You need to submit one application to restore your wife's status to visitor (not worker). You can also submit the PR sponsorship application with an OWP included.

Thanks for the help scylla.

Since usually the work permit takes 2 months and the restoration of status takes a least 4 months, what will happen if I request the Work Permit right away?
