Hi all. I was wondering if Birth Certificates need to be attached along with the PR application. I am a Provincial Nominee. On the cheklist it says copies unless otherwise stated. I am not sure if that means if its mandatory or not. I do have my passport, my permit and everything else as required. I also do not have my Police certificate. But in the checklist it says not mandatory but recommended.

Hello :)

BC should be included in your PR application, it is mandatory. A copy may suffice as it is not indicated that it should be original.

Police Certificates can be submitted upon application as recommended but may submit later when asked by the visa officer of CIC.

Hi,
It's very important to send photocopy of original birth certificate with your PR application. If you don't have one and by any chance you send a Birth certificate issued by your country's consulate/mission, it will NOT be Accepted by CIC under any circumstances. Although that certificate if previously accepted by the provincial government for your PNP application will be rejected by CIC for PR application. This happened with one of my friends. CIC returned his application after 2 months and he had to file again fresh with a notarized Birth certificate issued from home country on a stamp paper signed by his parents that he is the only son born to them on that day. There's another option where one can go to the local municipality where one was born and get the birth certificate reissued. If the municipality doesn't find your birth record they can issue No Birth certificate signed and stamped and maybe notarized. You can check the proper procedure with CIC or on their website to get more clarity on it.

Hi! I do have a copy of my birth certificate and it is notarized as well. But I have black and white copy of it. Can someone suggest if it would be fine to send a black and white copy notarized copy. It shows notarized and its stamped and everything. I just do not have a colored printer so took the copy in black and white. Would that work ?

Original of your BC should be CLEAR photocopied regardless if it is colored or in black. That's the time you let it notarize and certify that it is a true copy.

I think that will do.

Yes, you may provide them a letter of explanation. You may also include the receipt of your requested original BC as proof but your copy of BC alone will suffice.
