Is it advisable for a new comer to rent apartment in West End Vancouver ?

Me and my family will be migrating to B.C. Hopefully soon. We are considering WE bec. it is near downtown and transportation. Do you think this is a good choice or too expensive for a new comer?

Btw has anyone know how much does it cost to avail for the services of settle in vancouver short acoomodation? Many thanks!

Any downtown major city will be expensive, and unfortunately is probably the most expensive in all of Canada. If you want to reduce your transportation costs and not have to buy a car (and insurance), maybe downtown is better for you, but it honestly depends on your financial situation. Location is great, cost will be high.

Thank you for your reply, yes we don't have any plan of buying a car until we find a very stable job. Maybe we can save more money by not spending too much on transpo if we are near everything like shops, market, hospital etc.

Vancouver is VERY expensive. I live downtown and pay ca. $2700 monthly for a 2 BR condo (includes an extra parking stall in garage), not counting most utilities. Vancouver and surrounding municipalities have great public transit (bus, skytrain). No matter where you reside in the metro area (Vancouver/Burnaby/New Westminster/Richmond/Coquitlam/North Shore/etc.) you will have access to public transit and plenty of shopping/services, not just in the downtown core.
