Extremely expensive, especially rents.

FM itself has bad rep mostly justified as a wild west type place. Its the operational heart/ base of the oil sands so there are plenty of people mostly young men with too much money and not much to do so the usual social issues drugs etc are a problem. Due to the high incomes living costs are very high so if accommodations are not part of the deal you need to rethink this move. Its become more family oriented with say leisure center developments and major grocery chains but its still a long way...on the plus side the surrounding wood buffalo parks areas are some of the best in Canada. You going to Keyano?

well I am currently living in fort mcmurray guys, reason my cousin lives there, and some sorta new development, the bus stop is far away and the roads are kinda muddy with construction.Hope this gets better soon, spent come time in edmonton and calgary and liked it, but have no relatives there.I recently migrated too so everything's like just so new...

My dad in law lives there when he works up north, he is not too happy with it. The rent is insanely high up there compared to the standard you get!

It's a good place for someone who likes working alot ( money ) BUT it is fairly isolated, etc.
