I am 56 yr old female USA getting married to Canadian male 46 years old. He has never married, I was married at age 18 for 4 years and again at age 25 for 12 years. Is this a red flag? We get married in 3 weeks in Canada in a civil service with 20 guests and will take lots of pics and plan to file our 2014 taxes together and then apply outland for me to move to Canada afte r receiving pr. We both own our own home and have jobs in our home country and our bosses know our plans. We did meet playing a game on facebook 2 1/2 years ago and have visited by airplane 9 times in person, have passports, met his parents and both have met each others co-workers. Last year we opened a bank account together in Canada. We have credit card records of our purchases in each other's country....Also, I keep getting confused, since I plan to live there after approval, do only I get medical and fbi background check? After we file our taxes and I have fbi report, do we file his sponsorship app and my app for pr at the same time in the same mailing? And he has two children from a woman who he did not marry, pays her biweekly by bank transfer for child support, it is a verbal agreement. Will we have to get anything from the children's mother to prove the agreement? We wish to avoid telling her about the marriage as we fear she will go after my income for more child support. Thanks so much for your help.

Having been divorced twice yourself, does not give any red flags at all. As long as you provide divorce papers and show proof of your relationship being genuine, you should be fine. Considering that you are from the US, apply outland and you will likely land as PR within a year or less after submitting application.

Yes, you submit all forms at the same time.
Yes, only the applicant (the person who wants to get Permanent Residence) needs to do a medical and get police clearance certificates.

The whole application is sent together. Include your medical and Fbi Checks with your application . Your husband will need an option C report from Revenue Canada.he may also need a letter from his employer. You will send all proofs together of your relations ship . The application is $1040 . Ist stage os sponsorship second it will get sent to your VO which i think is Ottawa , will have to check on that . FBI checks right now are taking 12 weeks from what i have read on the forum . You will also need all your divorce certificates and your new marriage licence.

Just a tidbit of info but we are always here for questions :).

You won't need anything from his children or the mother of his children.

If you have any dependents or children under 19, they will need to take medicals as well.

Thank you, I never had children.

oh, another question, I printed and am filling the forms in with a pen, just to get that done to be able to type faster on computer later, after married. I see it asks about serious illness. I had cancer 5 years ago but am cancer free now. Will this be an issue? I have access to my medical record if needed.

I should change my profile name to "She who asks endless questions" lol.

Thanks again!

Won't be an issue as you are cancer free and when you do your medical exam, it will still come back cancer free.

If "god forbid" that it was discovered cancer came back, it is still not an issue. Spouses get exemption from the "excessive medical clause".

Its a very good idea to get familiar with the forms and the questions they ask , but before you send them off, double check to make sure they have not updated them. They don't tell you. It's up to you to check. It took me weeks to get our file together . I had to get postal codes from where my husband lived when was 18 .

They ask you to go back 10 years , but there was a lot of forum member asked to go back till they where 18, so that's what we did . My husband is 52 lol a lot of address and schools. Some of the addresses did not have postal codes or what you call zip codes back then.We Googled them.

I know you have been recommended here to send the FBI report with the rest of the documents, but I have been suggested otherwise by senior members here - to go ahead and send the documents without the FBI check since FBI check is currently taking 12+ weeks due to computer upgrade at FBI back in September, and to send the report to them as soon as you get it.

You don't have to worry about the divorces at all. In some cases, they might cause problems, but for an American-Canadian couple with the evidence you have listed, there will be no issues. If there is an interview (unlikely) the applicant is expected to know all about the sponsor's children and previous relationships - I suppose you do, but just a warning!

By the time the OP gets married and waits for her marriage certificate and does her medical , her Fbi checks would be just being completed .Why wait if she is able.I agree if the op had the application ready to go and was just waiting on the Fbi checks then yes, she could take that risk . It really depends on the officer who reviews the application weather he or she thinks it is complete . No point taking the risk when the OP has time to do all .
