Is custom duty applicable

We initially entered Toronto 2 years back to file our PR. At that stage we stayed for 15 days and had informed Immigration officer that we are returning back to come back at a later stage when we are ready (showed him the return ticket).

Now, we are landing in Calgary this August with bag and baggage. I read somewhere in the forum that whatever you declare during your first entry is exempted from Custom duty (whether it is self-carrying or Goods to follow). In our case, we would be carrying goods for the first time. Would the stuff be subject to Custom duty ? Or this be considered as exemption as during initial landing (because in principal we are settling down now) ?

Then it means you haven't landed as PR yet. So your first entry as a PR is called landing. During that process whatever you bring and mention "to follow later" are exempt from custom duties!

Thanks for clearing our doubt. During this entry, can we expect them to ask us for Proof of Funds ? Though I have no issues with this, but still, should be having documents readily available if this is the case.

They landed two years ago. They will be re-entering Canada as permanent residents - not landing for the first time.
