Hi,

I acquired Canadian citizenship in 2007 and my wife is a PR of Canada.

Our child was born in US in 2008.

Is he a Canadian citizen by birth? Can we apply for his Canadian citizenship certificate from outside Canada?

(We will be relocating back to Canada next month)

Thanks

How did you acquire your citizenship? If you were a PR and became a citizen by naturalization, yes your baby is a Canadian citizen( I might be wrong depending on how you acquired your citizenship).

your child is U.S Citizen by Birth But you passed your Canadian citizenship to him , he wasn't born in Canada , so Its not by birth .
, and you can can call the Canadian embassy to get his citizenship certificate and then his passport .

Thanks for the answers.

Yes I was a PR and then acquired Canadian citizenship by naturalization.

Please confirm, if my child is also Canadian citizen. And can I apply for his citizenship from outside Canada or we have to be physically present in Canada to apply for citizenship.

Yes your baby is a Canadian citizen: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/rules/index.asp
You don't have to register him but need his citizenship certificate first before you apply for his passport: https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/children/birth-abroad
You can apply from any nearest Canadian embassy, Canadian consulate,Canadian High commission in US you don't have to be in Canada. I think your baby is US citizen too, it won't be an issue if you want to relocate before he gets his Canadian passport.

We were recently in a similar position. My wife is Canadian and I'm British, but our son was born in the US and was automatically granted US citizenship. (We got him a US passport immediately so that we could travel while waiting on his Canadian documents.) Shortly after he was born we applied for his Canadian citizenship, which took a few months. As soon as we got that, we applied for his passport, which was completed quite quickly. We did all of this from the US and it was relatively straightforward.
