This is just an opinion post.

Do you think Canada is now officially closed as a preferred destination for aspiring immigrants with the government's protectionist policies around immigration, with the passing of Bill C-24 coming into effect and FSW now moved into Express Entry-exclusive zone?

Not closed, but difficult now?

The intake number is the same. All the policy changes and new laws are more realistic in that they bring the people the country needs and make sure no one is here just to get a passport and leave.

Not closed, but probably less attractive.

Maybe slightly. But Canada is still a pretty popular destination so not much will change. Compared to other developed countries, Canada is still up there in terms of immigration ease.

People said the same things about the USA after 9/11 when they got very strict (the whole "fortress America" thing). While there was a small dip, the USA still remained a very popular destination.

Is it really? I find it hard to believe that there are jobs where people have to be actually hired from out of the country, given how difficult doing that is...which employer is willing to wait 8 months to fill a vacant position?

So c-24 will make it hard for current immigrants who landed September 2013 to get citizenship even though they have a family here in canada who do poses canadian passports and are bound to settle in?
It's just, my wife and daughter are canadians, so me being an immigrant will have a hard time obtaining citizenship?

You have to wait an extra year and make sure you file tax returns. Not a big deal if you already file tax returns and don't plan on leaving the country much in the near future.
