Is additional income besides a closed work permit allowed?

Hi, I have a closed work permit bound to a specific employer as a software engineer. I am going to do some consulting services outside of Canada remotely and get extra income. Do you know if I am allowed to do that? Maybe someone has information. Thanks a lot!

Yes, you can do that as long as the work you are doing involves no Canadian customers or clients.

Thank you so much. Is there any source which I can be sure of that? I am worried that it can be problematic in the future when I will apply for PR

@scylla is better informed than I am but wouldn’t how you structure your consulting business be a factor? Thought you can’t start your own business while on a closed WP. Wouldn’t whether you have legal right to work in the country where the client is located be a factor.

@canuck78 , thank for your response. It is a remote-based task, I don't need a legal right to work in the country where the client is located. Yes, unfortunately, I can’t start my own business while on a closed WP.

Hi, am in similar situation. I was on a close work permit and got laid off. Now I have an opportunity to be self employed and work on contract (not full-time employment) with a company in my home country. Can I do this work? Can you also share any relevant official link that addresses this situation?
