Is a post-Bachelors internship counted as full-time employment?

Hi there! After completing my Bachelors, I joined a firm in India that employed me as a paid 'Intern' for a period of 9 months. After the 9 months ended, I was brought onto the payrolls as an FTE and worked another 2.5 years with the company before leaving to pursue my Masters. My work during the Internship was 40 hours per week and the job responsibilities fell into the same NOC code that's applicable to my full-time tenure.

After reaching out to the said company to get an experience letter, I was provided a document that listed my job responsibilities correctly but only mentioned that I was employed full time with them for 2.5 years. The Intern position was mentioned in a box in the document that listed the different positions I held in the company along with accompanying dates.

Can this cause a problem when the Canadian Immigration authorities evaluate the work-experience component of my Express Entry application? The Intern and the FTE role together satisfy the criteria of being employed for min. 3 years in one NOC code occupation.

No Internships are not accepted as full time employment.

One year full time employment will be enough but it might reduce your points

Thanks for your reply. Isn't that the case when you internship falls during a period when you're a student (i.e. an Internship during Bachelors/Masters)? My Intern position was more of a temp/contractual position that was created by the company for budgetary reasons. I was working 40 hours / week during the same.

Still it is considered as an internship as stated by the company . If the company can give you 3 years work experience then it should be fine without mentioning the internship part

Garrus,

Unless it was a paid position where you worked for 35+ hours a week, I don't think it qualifies as work experience. Moreover, be aware that this job must have been done outside your study permit (i.e. this experience was not gained when you had a valid study permit).

His work experience is foreign not Canadian - the link you provided is for CEC applicants not for FSW applicants.

I have two questions:

1. Were you on contract & payroll of another company while you worked for this employer?
2. If yes - reach out to the contracting company to issue a work experience letter, you can then attach the payslips, internship offer letter and hours of work to prove you worked 40 hours a week. Long shot but it is doable.

And if your current employer stated above is giving you a letter with 2.5 years only they are well within their rights and accurate because technically you were only brought on the role. (FTE) with them on that day. They cannot backdate your Joining date for a Full-time position.

So instead of spinning this as Internship - try to rename it as Contact role. because internship implies you were not fulltime & still studying in most cases.

@DelPiero07 is right. If the internship was fulltime and paid ,it can be counted towards crs in FSW program provided that it was done outside Canada and your reference letter fulfills the Ircc critieria
.

Even it was part of your studies,it will be counted.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. So the contractual position was with the company only, i.e. no third parties were involved. Also one thing missing from my original post is that the internship was a paid one. I was paid through checks instead of direct deposits. While I don't have the stubs that were attached with those paychecks, I do have my original offer letter for that internship period. It lists the start date, and the amount I would be paid on a monthly basis.

Should that, coupled with the experience letter, suffice?
