Hello :),

We plan to go to Canada with my boyfriend. He's Irish and I am french. As an Irish citizen with high degrees (PhD), he has the right to go to live in Canada (please let me know if I am wrong). He did a simulation on the official website. We would like to live in Toronto.

When we check the information he has the right to go there with a relative. So we think to get married, but I might don't have the Irish citizenship immediatly, so only the marital status.

I know that my request will be denied as a French citizen. I am more than 35 years old, so no access to the PVT, and no hight degrees. (I am self-taught in web content management and SEO).

I am looking on Google but its not easy to find an answer as this question is really specific. I hope that you will be able to help us.

Thanks.

Nobody has the right to emigrate to Canada everyone has to go through the process of applying same as everyone else. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/eligibility.asp

Are you referring to the working holiday visa which is avalable to Irish citizens for a 2 year open work permit regardless of qualifications ? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/

Yes Bs65 is correct your boyfriend has no automatic immigration to Canada and has to go through a program (Express entry/provincial nominee) just like everybody. If you are referring to International Experience Canada (IEC), your boyfriend can not still become a PR with that type of program. Pls do ur research well

Lastly, since you are a french lady, i suggest u try ur luck too with Quebec-selected skilled workers while your bf look for how to work his way tru express entry or provincial nominee programs.

Isn't QSW slower than Express entry? If the boyfriend gets ITA easily with PhD, should be easier to apply together (assumed common law is recognized)

Yes express entry is fast n better but the recognition of common law relationship is my fear. May be the two should get married then the man put in for express entry as principal applicant.

There is no need to get married. CIC recognizes common-law.
