Good Evening,

I've spent the better part of the evening crying, around 5pm I received an email from Immigration stating the following:

"Dear Sir/Madam,This refers to the Application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class or a Member of the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in CanadaClass submitted tothis office.A refund in the amount of $550has been initiated. If you paid by credit card, it will be credited back to your credit card account. Otherwise, a cheque will be mailed to you at the address indicated above in approximately six weeks to eight weeks"

About a week ago, I received an email stating that I had been approved as a sponsor for my husband, and now they are refunding out fee... I don't know what do think, or do. I can't call them as they will be closed for the weekend, I'm just a mess. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal?

Some background:
I am sponsoring my husband from the USA to Canada, we sent out package in September and it's for outside the Country sponsorship (he is currently living in Chicago).

We paid $1590 in fees, could we have paid too much?

I started crying, only because this has been such a long process for us, and I got so emotional because i couldn't call them and find out what's happening.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thank you,

You overpaid by $550. Refund amount makes sense.

Thank you for the quick response, my husband obviously thinks I've lost my mind and is happy I can now calm down :)

I went through hours of searches before paying the fees and I thought I had it right, I'm glad that's the problem.

It's just your husband with no dependents - yes? If so, the right amount to have paid was $1040. Consider the refund an early Christmas present.

THEY STARTED PROCESSING THE APPLICANT FORM AND SENT BACK THE EXCESS MONEY. IF THEY DENIED YOU THEY WOULD SEND BACK THE PERMANENT RESIDENCE FEE AMOUNT BUT NOT THE PROCESSING FEES.

CONGRATULATIONS YOU'RE ONE STEP CLOSER TO CANADA ;D

I'm guessing you paid the $550 "Spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner of the principal applicant..." fee, which does not apply to spousal sponsorship apps.
