Hello,

I am Permanent Resident in Canada, with good income and home ownership in Canada. I am looking into possibilities to invite my grandmother from India to live with me on either Super Visa or Temporary Resident visa.

I am writing this to discuss the possibility, and also pros and cons of having elderly grandparents living with us on temporary resident visa.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge around this scenario? What would I need before and after Visa process?

Looking forward to the feedback.

Well she can’t live with you permanently. It is still a visitor visa. You need to meet the requirements as well as pay for her healthcare insurance. She doesn’t get assess to free healthcare as a visitor. She needs a medical exam too.

Thanks you. So pre-visa requirements, medical tests, and health insurance make sense. Can she be eligible for super visa? I know she won't be living with me permanently, but can she be eligible for super visa? I know super visa allows longer duration to stay than TRV.

If you meet the requirements on the website and LICO for the total number of people in your family, then yes she is eligible. As long as he doesn’t have any serious health concerns, she is eligible.

Would warn you that supervisa insurance is only emergency medical insurance. You would need to be willing to pay for routine care and you need to have a plan if she gets ill while in Canada. Once her condition is stable how she would get home or how you would pay for her care out of pocket.
