Hello,

I'm currently at Canada with a student visa and a off campus work permit; I've been here for 9 months and I still have one more year before I finish my studies.

I would like to immigrate through the "self‑employed persons" process. My question is, for how long do I have to be in Canada in order to submit my application? would you recommend me doing the process by myself? or I should get a specialized person like a lawyer?

Thanks for your time

1. Well it appears that you haven't read the definition, unless you are world renowned artist or athlete or are buying a farm and have farm management experience.
suggest you read the following:

Hello,

Thanks for your reply... and yea I visited that website before posting here.... what make have this question is the following:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/business/self-employed/apply-who.asp

This is from the "relevant experience" section on that page......"Please consult the Related Links section at the bottom of this page for a list of activities that qualify."...

I clicked on the link and saw that there are many activities such as Librarians, Editors, Dancers, Camera Operators, etc.

The ones you mentioned "renowned artist or athlete or are buying a farm" are for the self employed persons? or I'm missing something?

Thanks

Read : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op08-eng.pdf Section 11.3 It will give you an idea what will be considered.

Great, that document was very helpful.. Thanks

Im confident that I meet all the requirements stated in the document you previously sent and also my project is completely cultural and sports oriented. ---> "It is intended that the self-employed class enrich Canadian culture and sports"

Would you recommend me to wait until I finish my current studies (May 2010) for submitting my application? or to do it sooner?

Thanks for your time and info.

Dear Sir,
I am Rajesh Kumar Saha from Bangladesh and interested to apply for immigration under Self-Employed category. I am a Leather Patter Maker which match the Self –Employed profession list (5245 – Pattern Makers – Clothing, Leather & Fur Products). I also get the required pass points. But some questions has been raised in my mind. If anyone can help me by providing the right way, I will be very grateful to him.
1. What is the maximum processing time for self – employed category immigration?
2. Is it mandatory to own a business as the experience for this self-employed category? Or working as an employee will be sufficient to count the experience?
3. Is the tax documents mandatory for application?
4. What is maximum fund have to show?
Thanking you.

You can find the answers to your questions here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/business/self-employed/apply-who.asp

The minimum processing time is probably 3-4 years. There is no maximum processing time.
