Hi all,

So we finally received our request for an interview for about ten weeks from now, and there is a list of documents to bring at the bottom of the letter. It lists basically every document that went into the original package! Security checks, medical exam, proof of our relationship, schedule A, proof of my legal status as the sponsor, proof of my financial status, eeeeeeeverything! All documents have to be originals, but for things like the security check and the medical, they already HAVE the originals. It says to do the medical again if it's past 15 months (which it is) but according to our GCMS notes, our medicals have been extended to October. What do we do? Doing all the paperwork over again is expensive, and some of it might not get to us in time. Has anyone else who's been asked to interview had to do all this over again? What kind of documents were requested?

And on top of that, the email says not to contact them between now and the interview. But we have to tell them things, like the fact that we got married the day before they sent interview request, that we want to remove our ridiculous consultant from having access to our file, important things like that. We've sent them a note, but they have a response time of 28 days, which would be cutting it a little too close to get stuff together for early September.

Anyone have any advice or experience? I refuse to ask my crap consultant anything further!

the current processing time for an fbi record is 28 days, not including mail. If the interview is in 10 weeks, you can check that off your list. The cost is $18 for the record, and depending on where you get your fingerprints, another $5-20.

as for the medical, i would show the proof where they said it was extended until october and bring your receipt. it says "if more than 15 months". if you can PROVE they have an extension in your system, i would think that counts. If they aren't happy with this, then request more time for that at the interview, and play dumb as if you thought your medical was accepted as is.

What other forms cost money? Hopefully you saved a copy of your application or can reprint it off?

I'm going to say you're probably not going to b able to provide them with the new information you have for them until your interview, since they specifically state NOT to contact them. I would think the interview is the PERFECT time to convince them to change your application to spousal... I would even bring a complete spousal application (w your marriage certificate and relationship proof) and give it to them! I would also bring proof of the consultant's misguided information, and discuss the fact you found out AFTER sending in the application that the information was wrong. Put all of that IN your new application too.

I'm sure it's completely terrifying and overwhelming. You can get through this. Just be extra prepared and bring EVERYTHING to prove you are eligible to be approved for a PR!

You could try to get your MP to inquire about the medical and your other concerns. They can't influence the app but they can usually get a much more in-depth response from CIC pretty quick.

Also, if you want to remove your consultant, you need to fill out and send the Use of Representative form, IMM 5476. It has a section entitled Section C – Cancel the Appointment of a Representative . If you are that unhappy with the consultant, I suggest you send this off ASAP.

The interview notification is sent in form letter style and many of the items listed at the end may not apply to you. If you have a medical extension I doubt very much that you need to get another medical exam . US applicants generally only need 1 FBI clearance. Make sure that you bring the originals of any photocopy documents submitted with your application. CIC are assessing the genuineness of your relationship usually at these interviews, so bring any additional evidence that would help in this regard. The fact that you have married since filing your application is in itself convincing evidence of your relationship.
You are suppose to advise CIC if there is any change in your martial status anyway, so do so immediately and bring along the original marriage documents to the interview. Good luck.

It looks like you are a Canadian/American couple who filed outland, correct? Just curious, what concerns does the VO have with you to make you go through the interview? You mentioned you ordered GCMS notes, do they say anything? Just wondering for my own info, you'll make it through this though

Our emails are about the same. We asked our Lawyer. We don't need to provide the documents that are in our original documents. What we need to provide is the on going ones (including emails, chat history, text messages and photos).

I have to provide new FBI, State criminal clearance and medical since the original ones are over one year old.

I'm in pretty much the same boat here too, got a letter this week for an interview. I've seen people mention that there can be extra information on the reason for the interview in the GCMS notes, but from all I can see when logging in to review our application status, it just says that the interview has been scheduled. Is there another place I should be looking?

We are applying as a common-law couple living in the US (same gender, not married, I've been on a work Visa down here for the past 7 years). We aren't the kind to get out and about much (mostly spend our time enjoying games, movies, etc. together), and we only have one pair of local friends, so we were rather light on pictures together compared to most people who had wedding receptions, etc.

I presume that the reason for the interview is that they doubt the genuineness of the relationship and so I figure the best thing to do to prepare is to refresh in our minds the 10 years of our relationship and the 4 years of close friendship that proceeded it, to be able to recite basic facts about one another (musical, hobby, movie likes, etc), and to provide as much additional information as possible to show our lives are integrated.

Is there any other way to find out/place to look to see what exactly the reason(s) behind the interview are? I don't want to do our preparation only to find out that XYZ was their main concern and we didn't bring any proof to clear that red flag up.

Thank you everyone for your help.

You can order your notes here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-atip.asp You can have them sent to you electronically and it will take about 30 days to get to you. Do you have time to order/receive them before your scheduled interview? That is the only place you will be able to see any notes in regards to your case.

Thank you very much. Yes, the interview isn't until early September, so still 2 months away. I should probably also mention there is 10 years between me and my partner (with me, the sponsor, being the younger), which may be another contributing factors since is seems age difference is a big thing.

Thank you again for your help, I'll order these post-haste.

Double check your medical, our GCMS notes say that the validity has been extended til October (which is past the interview date). Ha, maybe I'll see you in LA ;)

We probably won't be able to get new clearance from Japan, they take a long time to process. RCMP, FBI and NY state should be ok. And we'll just bring more pictures and our wedding certificate (if we ever get that, Canada Post seems to have lost our marriage license. yaaaaaaay.)
