Hi, my partner just got an email for an interview in Tokyo. They request her to bring both her and her sons passports and birth certificates, a new police certificate (the previous one expired during the process) and a completed form of IMM5604. I will be also going with her to the interview because I'm in Japan visiting her and her son for the Christmas Holidays and will be returning to Canada 2 days later. My question is that it doesn't say in the email if her son is required to go to the interview as well. Is it a good idea if all three of us attend or can her and I just go?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!! :)

if they didn't ask her son to be present, so they don't need to interview him. but it will not be any problem if all if you decide to attend the interview at once. it might even help to pass interview successfully.

No, check with the office , for example at Buffalo will not admit children under 18 to the waiting room. So the OP should email Tokyo or if the child is not specifically request don't take him.

How did your interview go? I also applied through the Tokyo visa office. I am still waiting for my medicals though. Did you receive your medicals? What was the interview like? Please share your experience so we can get a clear idea what it is like.Good luck on your application by the way.

We applied under Conjugal Relationship. My partner is Brasilian who lives in Japan. We have been together for 3 years and I have come to Japan to visit her and her son every 4 to 6 months. We have been both previously married and divorced. We both speak the same language.
They wanted to know why we never married. That's was the biggest purpose of the interview. We explained why. They asked her questions about my job (wages, what my position is, job discription), my family (my parents, my children, what happened to my previous marriage). How the relationship developed. Basically normal things that any couple should know about eachother. We went into the interview not knowing what to expect and it went well because we know eachother very well and my partner and I converse twice a day on MSN or by phone. If your relationship is genuine and you know your partner well enough you should be OK. But there could also be something more specific in your case too. Everybodies case is different depending on the circumstances.
I only went with her to the interview to give her moral support. I never thought that they were going to call me in after her interview and interview me. I was caught off guard. They interviewed us seperately. They provided her with a Japanese interpreter.
She was in the interview for about an hour and I was for about half hour. The Visa Officer conducting the interview made the interview very confortable for both of us.
We sent the police certificate on Jan 14th. Now we are just waiting. They already had the medicals because my partner had them done in August of last year.

Hope this can help some! :)

Dear gts02,

Thanks for the info! Well I am glad it turned out well for both of you and I am sure you will get your visas very soon. I hope everything for you will be great in Canada. As for my case, I am still waiting but I guess our time will come. Patience is really the key here. It's also good to know that at the interview they made you feel comfortable. That's very important I think.

Anyways, do let us know what happens next! Thanks again!

They wanted an interview because they wanted to know why we didn't get married. We applied under the Conjugal Relationship. We had more then enough evidence that our relationship was genuine but we had nothing stopping us from getting married other then personal choice.
