My Ecuadorian husband just had his interview today for his permanent residence . Apparently, the officer was convinced our relationship was genuine and everything is ok , but the officer stayed with my husband´s passport and told him he would need to get his medicals re done but he would have to wait until the officer sent him a letter (which he said he would send it in about a week). How much longer do we have to wait? Why do they need to stay with the passport? Any info would be appreciated ... we have been waiting for more than 15 months and are more eager by the minute!!

They are keeping the passport in order to issue the visa, otherwise he would not have kept it. That's a positive sign.

Your husband needs to wait for the letter instructing him to re-do his medicals, and do it as soon as possible after receiving the letter.

I would say you are looking at another 8-12 weeks, hang in there, you're in the home stretch now. :)

Is the letter sent to his address? We are tired of waiting, 15 months is more than enough! :(...

Thanks for your answer..

He revisado casos similares en este foro y aparentemente la mayoria de personas reciben su pasaporte en no mas 45 dias... ya mismo le llegara!

Hi Kelly0891,

I am also spponsoring my Ecuadorian husband through Bogota. We are about to hand in the application today or tomorrow.

What can you tell us about the interview? What were the questions? Where was the interview? And did they explain why your case took so long? I realize the processing time is currently 17 months, but others seem to get through much faster.

It's a baffling process.

Medellinguy,

Nine months! That would be a dream! Tell us your magic trick! We are handing in the application today and I have scoured this site for all tips I could find. I must now trust that the application is complete and convincing. Any advice for us?

Thanks medellinguy,

I've included everything that I could possibly include that I thought was relevant and the official documents are properly translated and certified. I'll def call the MP if the waiting gets too long, but the 17 month processing time is not super encouraging.

It's just a matter of time now.

My husband was told the exact same thing at his interview. The letter to redo the medical, with the PPR, came in July (2 months after his interview).

The interview was not bad at all. I guess it depends which officer interviews the person but if your relationship is genuine , and you know all the facts you should not be worrying! Your husband may not even be called in for the interview.
The officer did not explain why an interview was scheduled but I believe it was for lack of proof. When I sent the PR application I only had about 10 photos and that's about it! I would have had more but we only dated 5 months , I left to Toronto for almost 2 years , and when I returned to Ecuador to get married I only stayed 2 months. My only advice is try to send as much proof as you can. Photos, Chat logs, FB messages, cards .. anything! What I did was I Print Screen all my messages , status updates and pictures on Facebook.

Like I said, an interview may not even be necessary for your application .. as long as you send CIC everything you possibly can!

Any other questions you can PM me !

Oh ... and one more thing... I highly believe Colombian applications have an advantage because the visa office is in their country. I say this because my application is going on for 15 months , and I've seen other Ecuadorian applications take about the same time or longer.
I hope I'm wrong and that you do not have to wait as long as I am!
