Hi you are correct. A decade ago CIC did not accept reference letters. However they had many cases where the previous employers refused to write job description on the experience letters (as is the case for most multinational companies). If you are lucky enough to have your employers write your duties and job description on your experience letter, you do not need a reference letter. Else you need a reference letter (it says from a colleague everywhere, however it is better to get it from you ex-manager if you can). Salary is not needed on the letter.Abu Hassaan said:nkalra,
Experience letters are issued to the outgoing employees. The standard experience letter only contains period of employment, designation and character of the employee. It is very rare if any company is mentioning salary, working hours and job description on the experience letter. Companies don't feel comfortable to provide this info in written to their employees. Since this is a standard practice all over the world, for this reason I believe, CIC asks for reference letters with period of employment, designation, job description, salary and working hours.
If applicant submits experience letter, pay slips, offer letters along with reference letter then his/her case becomes stronger.
If it is for previous job, always submit your official experience letter with the reference letter and if it is your current job, then send appointment letter with the reference letter (as they still need to contact your HR department in, if you are flagged for verification). Despite all rumors, not everyone has their degrees and experience verified by CIC.
I strongly agree with your last comment, only people who do not submit strong supporting evidence, go into verification stage.
Regards,
