Hi there,
My fiancee and I have been living together (with proof) since March 2008. We have been apart for 5 weeks now while she visits family... is this too long of an interruption in our relationship? Will we have problems with the sponsorship application now?? We have Skype logs documenting hours of communication almost daily...
HELP!!!!!
thanks!

I am sure vacations are allowed. People who live together take vacations apart sometimes. I wouldn't worry about it.

Before we were married, my husband and I broke up for almost 2 months. I explained to Immigration all of that surrounded that and I had no problem. So I would say neither should you, since you guys are actually still together just living seperately as many applicants are.

Phew - thanks!
It makes one so nervous having no control over something so important (as you all know)

Plus the application says that it counts living together as 6 months or more. You have been living with her for a total of over a year now with the exception of a few weeks so I would say no worries on that.

Interruption of Commonlaw Rehiplations

hi im a 23 year old girl from philippines with a common law partner, aged 25, for 14 months already. both of us are registered nurses but unfortunately our current work is not related to our profession. i would like to apply for a resident visa in order for me to take exam for nurses in canada and eventually work there. ofcourse, i would like to bring my partner with me.

i have my 1st degree cousin to sponsor me. his satus is resident already but i think he is not financially capable now. i am thinking that i can still use my cousin's status just to prove i have relaive in canada then will show money to prove we can support ourselves when we get there. is it possible?

and do you think i can bring my partner with me?

Your cousin cannot sponsor you through family sponsorship. However, you can consider to apply as a skilled worker. Check the cic website or the following for reference:

After the first year of continuous co-habitation, you are in a common law partnership, and you will continue to be in that common law partnership until you live apart for a certain number of months due to a breakdown in your relationship.

Even if this had happened (which it hasn't in your case), you can resume the relationship after only one day of renewed co-habitation. In your case, there has been no breakdown, and you have co-habited for more than one year in the past, so you're fine. I suppose they could wonder if your relationship has broken down, but I don't think it will be hard to prove that it hasn't. There hasn't been an interruption to your relationship, only a temporary interruption to co-habitation.
