Hi,

I've been accepted to a progam at Niagara College beginning in Jan 2010. I'm a citizen and currently reside in Antigua. If you are currently applying for or have currently recieved a study visa for Canada, can you tell me how difficult it is/was for you? How much money did you have to show you you have/had?

Let me know your general experience.

It is not a difficult process but you need to make sure of the following: that you have enough money for tuition, books, living expenses and return fare home. On average after tuition etc., many of my students have over 20 thousand in their accounts for the first year of school and thereafter if you renew from Canada CIC says a minimum of $4000 in your account after tuition. If your parents are supporting you or a company you should have a letter stating that and a copy of their bank statement along with your own or the companies notarized agreement to support you. You will not need a medical since you are Antiguan and it is not required. You will need to attach your original acceptance letter from the school with your application. I have worked with several Antiguans and had no problems getting them Study Permits for Canada.

Thanks for the feedback daehder. Do I have to show proof of my ties back home such as property ownership etc?

If you have them everything helps especially if you are an older student and paying for yourself. As long as you have enough for tuition, living expenses and accomodation financially you should be fine - this means at least 25k before you tuition is paid and you can prove you own property and what it is worth it all helps.

Well, i'm also from the caribbean and I've been accepted by college in Quebec, classes begin on Sept. 8th. I got a sponsor who's living in Quebec, he's actually my father’s cousin but I’m pretty sure that we can’t prove it to the officer. He’s willing to provide me financial affidavit, proof of employement, and bank statement. Do you think that the officer will consider that or they’ll anyway ask me proof of relashionship? Does that will help me? My father is also my sponsor. I haven't submitted my student permit application yet. Do you think my student permit could probably issued by the time to attend my first day of class?

i am an international student from st.lucia, and my cic office is in trinidad. i sent in my application early june, i have not received a response yet. i am worried that my application may be rejected because of a few reasons:

1. i forgot to include the pre paid courier envelope that was stated on the website
2. my mother and sister are bot permanent residents of canada, although they both live in ottawa, and i will be studyin at quebec.
3.i'm afraid my funds may not be enough to prove sufficient although i have been given a student loan already of 80,000 ec and plus my mother had pledged her support while i a mthere.
4. i am ateacher but did not include any proof of my job simple because they did not ask fr proof of that.

please someone who has been through the same ting, can u help me.

They will probably return ur application unprocessed because you have caused them an inconvenience since there is no prepaid envelope.

If u r single u have to show at least $10,000cad living expenses for a year and ur tuition fees. So if u convert ur local currency to CAD and it is sufficient for a year living expenses and tuition fees u r good to go.

Each country requirement is different so if ur country guideline does not ask for previous employment history then u r okay.

Hi,

I've sent my application to caracas and have been waiting for 5 weeks without an answer. How long do you assume it will take for me to finally here something? Do you think it will be before school starts in September? I can't stand all this waiting. When I call the embassy they always send me to an answering machine to leave a message.
Another question. I've sent with my application a fedex paper so they can send it back with fedex without paying. Do you think tehy will use it?
