International Students (approved before 18) need an 'essential' reason to travel to Canada.

Hey guys, just come in contact with the friend who traveling first time. When she got to the border, the border officer (BO) searched for her school name and told her that her school was closed but online classes are still operating. Then the BO asked her that if the classes were online, why she need to come as she can still study in the home country. She explained the time zone difference and also her family member in Canada is seriously sick that needs someone to take care of. The BO asked her to submit all the documents as evidence to what she said. After checking, the BO decided to let her in.
Her condition is unique because of family.

That I think makes sense...I'm not sure. Maybe they allowed because the semester already started.

Those who travel in june for the fall are surely going very early. Maybe that explains the many boarding denials...
Many students from india who are attending their online classes for May intake were denied. That won't be a reason to be allowed entry.

Maybe I can explain that since my study in the US has ended and since I've committed to studying in Canada, it would be ridiculous if I stay in the US under a study visa but study online courses in Canada. I don't know if they would consider this as essential

So now @Dafaqisgoingon it's the same thing?
I never said they were different things. Airlines always coordinate with Transport Canada and CBSA and follow their advise. Its mentioned on IRCC website as well. Just wait for them to update instructions on non/essential and essential travel for Int. Students on their program delivery page. We all are speculating here.

Again dont confuse border entry with flight
entry, different rules, no one is being denied entry flying in under exemption.
Flights are an airline issue.
Hi! I have been told by many people in India and one from the US. Indians were denied boarding by the ALO at YYZ and they communicated it to the airline officials. And the person from the US wasn't stopped by the airlines and landed in canada. She was then detained by the CBSA and her passport was taken away. She was then flown back to South Carolina. Another person who wasn't a first time flier told people that immigration officer told her that, " Being a student doesn't give you the right to travel at any time, and certainly, not at a time like this" . The officer also refuted the information given by IRCC that students approved before 18 march can travel.

Its IRCC which hasn't communicated the rules either to students or to CBSA. And, as a result, students are ending up being denied entry or flown back to their origin place.

Hope that they will update the instructions and not misguide people with rules that are not in force or if ever were.

All right. No good news for me. I have postponed my flight and my Airbnb booking till early August. But it seems like I'll lose the money

Have you heard any news from your friends who planned to leave on the 18th and 25th? I guess they canceled their flights too?
