International Student to Canadian Permanent Residence

Hi. Everyone,

I want to go to Canada to study third year in
an university.

I heard an international student can apply for
Canadian Permanent Residence after 3 years
living in Canada.

Is it true?

And is there any fast track way
in which province or should I only consider
Toronto/Vancouver or Ottawa ?

There is no immigration class that allows students after 3 years to apply for PR.

If you qualify to apply as a skilled worker with at least 1 year skilled work experience in the past and 67 or more points on the self assessment, you can apply under category 3 after a year in Canada even if your occupation is not in the 38 most wanted list and you don't have a job offer.

If you get a post grad work permit and a job after you graduate, you could look into provincial nominee programs and applying as an international graduate. In some programs, you can apply right away with studies and job offer, in others, you would need to work for a little while. If your employer supports your PNP application, you can usually apply right away under PNP employer driven stream.

If you get a post grad work permit and a job after you graduate and work for 1 year, you could qualify to apply under Canadian Experience class.

Hi there.

What about 6 years studying in Canada?

My girlfriend is studying for 6 years in Toronto. First College and now University. She worked on campus in both institutes. I heard that we can apply for her permanent residence without marriage.

Did you hear anything about that?

Sorry to jump on your thread. Leon can you clarify that if you are in Canada studying on a study permit, after one year you can apply for permanent residence IF you have more than 1 years work experience in say Computer Engineerings(not one of the 38) and that your points meet or exceed 67? Just trying to find a way for my brother to come across if I get in. This seems to be the easiest way for him to get in without retraining in the UK and then getting the work experience in the 38

Yes, there are 3 categories to apply for skilled worker. 1 is if you are in one of the 38 occupations, 2 is if you have a job offer, 3 is if you have been in Canada for 12 months as a student or a temporary worker.

Under category 3, the one year stay in Canada opens the door to apply as a skilled worker and to qualify as a skilled worker you need at least 67 points and at least one year continuous experience in any skilled occupation.

Ok sounds like a good option Leon thanks!! just got to find the funds for him to do it!!! Any idea what the latest is you can leave applying for the student visa? if the term started in Sept 2010?

I have no idea about that. He needs to get accepted to a college before he can apply for the visa. He might be able to start in January 2010. He will need to show that he can support himself and pay for his tuition and that he has ties to back home that he will return when his studies are done. After 6 months of studying, he can apply for a student work permit which would allow him to work up to 20 hours a week along side his studies. After his studies are completed, he could qualify for an open post-grad work permit.

good day everyone! i am hoping for anyone who could give me some advice.
i am planning to study in canada in NAIT i want to took up culinary or either hospitality management, I am a graduate of bachelor of arts in mass-communication, and hotel and restaurant management undergraduate, now i am planning to continue my education in hospitality industry in canada, my question is what should i answer if the embassy asked me why i chose canada and what is my plans after i graduated? should i have to say that i will apply to some s=companies in canada or should i say that i will go back in philippines because i have a business in this country and my aunt is now building a private resort and she will want me to manage her resort after i graduated. because as of this moment my aunt is almost done with her resort and wants to open this april.

if i will answer that i will go back to manage my aunts resort what should i give to the embassy as a proof? or should i answer that i will search for some jobs in canada? thank you and i am hoping for your advice an answers..
